So who will start vs 49ers? Is Jimmy safe?

This thread is so lame. We are forced to keep talking about Clausen because it is a bye week and he was the last to perform badly.

Jimmy Clausen appears a lot less worried than we are about his performance. He is allowed to have a bad year. As Trent Dilfer adamantly says a rookie year does not define a quarterback. From Troy Aikman on down there have been lots of rookies with no success that have gone on to do great things.

Would anyone here have the patience for Troy Aikmen to get good? He lost every single game he started as a rookie. No one is saying that Clausen is the next Troy Aikmen, but to act like he's hopeless because he's making rookie mistakes is the sign of the simple minded fan.

I think people understand that for the most part. Clausen has a lot thrown at him....and he doesn't have a great offense around him to hide. No one is expecting him to look good.

People just have a problem when certain posters claim he is playing decent and improving and is 10x better than Moore.

ok, of the top of my head....here are the recent new head coaches.

2010

Shanahan - got his own QB

2009

Schwartz - got his own QB

Spag - got his own QB the following year

Ryan - got his own QB

McDanials - got his own QB

Haley - got his own QB

Mangini - kept QBs for 1 season and got rid of them all, got his own QB

2008

Smith - got his own QB

Harbaugh - got his own QB

coaches that kept the existing QBs on the roster.....

2010

Gailey - already got rid of 1 - if he stays another year he will bring in his own QB.

and Indy but they were a turn key type switch at HC.

okay, now it is your turn. You tell me the new head coaches that have come in from the outside of the organziation and stayed w/ the same QB who was suppose to the future? Let's try to keep it recent b/c that is what matters in today's game.

new coaches, do new things. Unless you are doing an Indy thing and a turn key type move w/ literally everything staying the same.....Odds favor us seeing new QBs in the near future.

edit, forgot Singletary - that is one in your favor. He kept the same QB.

and neither of these teams had a qb worth anything before these coaches got there

Haley was brought in 2009. He got rid of Tyler Thigpen, a third year player who profermed pretty will in 2008 with 2,608 yards, 18 TDs, 12 INTs, and a rating of 76. Just one example of a new coach getting rid of a possible "franchise QB".

the equation many seem to be missing is the FRONT OFFICE(you know the people that hire said coach)were ok with said coach bringing in another qb if they didn't already have one,THAT WILL NOT BE THE CASE HERE. whomever Hurney/Jr hire will come in with the understanding that clausen is someone they want to see develop if at all possible. who says fox wanted clausen in the first place? if it were totally up to him jake would probably still be here

You don't have to look past our own John Fox to see this happen. When he got here Weinke just finished a 1-15 season as a rookie with much better stats than Clausen has so far. What did he do? Got a veteran in Rodney Peete in 2002 and added Delhomme in 2003. Weinke stayed around but never started another game until 2006.

That could easily happen to Clausen as well. He will be here But there is no guarantee he will be the answer. People keep comparing him to Hall of famers who failed their first year when there are a bunch of other examples of guys who failed their first year and never got better. Based on Clausen's mechanics it is hard to see as a hall of famer down the road.

Hurney drafted Weinke and brought in Fox. Didn't stop Fox from bringing in Peete and Delhomme. Same thing could easily happen again.

actually SEIFERT drafted weinke since he was the defacto GM at the time Hurney only oversaw the cap & contracts at the time

But doesn't really matter. When Fox got here Hurney was the GM and if Hurney was so enamored by Weinke then Fox wouldn't have been allowed to bring in Peete or Delhomme. Any head coach but an internal choice will want to make some decisions including who their starting quarterback is since their future depends on it. Few coaches will count on a rookie particularly if he has poor numbers. Unless Clausen gets a lot better quickly, he won't be the starter next year. No reason really. He isn't that expensive and wasn't a first rounder. It wouldn't be a big deal.

what's different? someone high up in this organization likes clausen that's what's different!

um, again, how are we different. Those other teams had guys that were on them as well. That is why they were drafted by them...and were young. Had just as much reason to believe they were the "future" as well.

They liked his potential in the draft but it doesn't mean they will like him if he sucks it up. Weinke was a Heismann Trophy winner and had a much better pedigree than Clausen even having played professional baseball. But that didn't matter after his rookie year.

Liked and still likes could be different if Clausen's continues to play so poorly. Do you think Hurney and Fox expected to be 0-5?? They are learning they made more than 1 mistake this offseason.

Hurney didn't like weinke that's my point, didn't draft him & didn't care what happened to him. a couple of players on this roster will be givin the chance to develop no matter who the coach of this team is(jimmy, armanti) TAKE IT TO THE BANK

Wenkie was also 27 years old going into his second season. Plus had the ware and tear of being a Pro baseball player. Ask Drew Henson how that helped him. So please stop using wenkie as 1 of your examples.
