Potential Head Coaches

Green was never really that great a coach. Decent OC, but as a head coach his teams pretty much always folded in the playoffs.

Some of the Viking teams he coached were a ridiculous assembly of talent. Unbelievable he couldn't get to the Super Bowl with some of the players he had.

So, basically, your saying he's a lock for the job?

sorry, decent speech for a retired football player. doesn't make him more marketable.

I was making the comment because you said you dont think he is a good salesman..I gave you his HOF speech as a example that he is.

A good speech can make you more marketable.IMO one the reasons Leslie Frazier has not been a HC is because he reportedly interviews bad

what i mean a good salesman is someone who can not just talk about the good old days, but who has a big vision of what the team can do and the ability to convey it to others, getting them to buy into it as well. grimm doens't strike me as someone who can do that. solid coach, but nothing dynamic. probably a guy i would work for if my options were limited. i just don't see him being more than fox in that department. he's a bare bones kind of guy. he's broccolli and we need some cheese on it to make it more attractive/tasty.

jim harbaugh can get just about anyone pumped about his vision. grimm is mainly appealing to the old school guys. old fans. old football players. i just see grimm as a continuation of what we have in fox and i seriously think the team needs to move away from that.

Bu-bu-but..

Maybe..like..the Rooney rule will..maybe...

It'd just be a travesty if we didn't sign him! :willy_nilly:

There are three minority coaches (Leslie Frazier, Ron Rivera and Winston Moss) who have a legitimate shot at actually getting the job, not just a Rooney Rule interview.

But does the team see that need?

That's gonna be an important question this offseason.

well, from listening to hurney this year, it seems like he's getting it. and if you think that it's just talk, take a look at how the draft went. it wasn't typical foxball picks. it was a bunch of fast guys...not just that, there were 5 picks commited to the passing game. sure, that was an area that we needed help in, but to me, that was a pretty big indicator of what he sees as important and the direction he's heading. it's going to be fast, aggressive, and in keeping with the times. it's also going to need to be run by someone who personifies that. the team is going to be changing course. it has to. hurney realizes that and i'm willing to bet, so does richardson.

all that being said, i could see where gruden might be a serious contender for the job. if thats the case, hopefully he's learned some stuff about how to deal with players. i wouldn't be thrilled with it, but i can see it.

harbaugh, though, just looks like the guy who would best personify all of that. hiring him doesn't mean that we'd all of a sudden turn into some massive pass happy team, look at stanford. that is a massive run heavy team that is led by a smart QB who can do it all. imo, thats something that can happen here. you take luck and you've got a talented jake with less mistakes. to take harbaugh and you've got a HC that doesn't settle for 3 out of 4 wins and coaches not to lose but who coaches to embarrass and destroy the other team. a guy who is confident and relentless and who expects and demands the best of his guys and is able to bring it out.

Safe to say right now in the Pac 10 Harbaugh and Stanford ar considered the most physical football team.

Speaking of Luck, I'm currently watching the Stanford vs. Cal game. Luck only had 6 passing yards in the first quarter, and against a team that is unranked. Granted he had a fantastic run for big yardage, but that's not what we are looking at (scrambling is great, but we are talking about passing here). Now isn't 1st quarter production on offense what we are looking for? I know the kid is a great QB, probably something special. But the whole game so far I've been begging for a pass play in which I don't have to compare Andrew Luck to Byron Leftwich (that 6 yard pass in the 1st quarter had a massive windup).

Not a hater, if we draft him great. I will get excited and get his jersey. I am just expecting some lights out play from him.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
