Evidence Favre is an a--, props to AP

My sister is a nurse at a St Jude's out patient clinic. They have a 19 yr old patient who is dying. They do a lot of Make A Wish there, but he is too old (over 18). Still wanting to figure something out, the social worker asked his mom what he might want. She said that he loves Brett Favre and the Vikings. Great, the SW's husband is friends with someone who used to play for the Vikings. They contacted him. The former player, is still friends with a Vikings trainer...so they talked. The trainer said, "forget Favre....he is an ass, and will not do these things, but I know someone who will.....and loves to do this kind of thing" Not only did this kid get tickets (and great seats) to a Vikings game, Adrian Peterson wanted to know his size, Fed Ex'd him a package before the game that included a jersey and a signed football. The kid got to meet AP.

Props to AP. I am now a fan (unless he plays the Panthers).

Hope the investigation derails Favre's HOF aspirations. Can't be a bigger ass than one who will not help a dying kid. (This kid has tumors growing in his neck that respond to no treatment. He will smother to death when they get large enough. Won't be very long.)

To be fair, ladypanther, Favre never got the chance to respond. The trainer responded for him.

Trainer said he would not do these things.....because he has refused. That was his experience. Sounded like he worked out things for the kid....if he thought there was a chance of getting Favre...he likely would have tried. Favre has made his reputation. AP has a reputation of loving to help.

Let me just give you an example of when I worked for the Panthers. John Kasay would not raise a finger to do anything like that through the organization, and yet I saw him do something extraordinary for several youths outside of the organization. Some players just get burned early in their career and decide to devote everything to their own charities.

I'm not saying that Favre isn't an ass. Everything I've seen the last few years...his putting Green Bay in a tough spot, his behavior in New York, his diva like behavior in Minnesota...paints a pretty ugly picture.

Just saying be careful to judge in situations like that. I myself tried to do something for someone through the organization and was extremely disappointed in what happened.

I just looked it up. He has his own children/cancer charity called the Fourward Foundation and another favorite cause for women with cancer after his wife got sick.

Charities are a tricky thing, Ladypanther. We were not allowed to mention certain ones on panthers.com because our organization supported others that "competed" for those dollars. You would think that a good deed for a sick kid could just be that, wouldn't you? Unfortunately politics get in the way. Sucks.

Are those just tax deductions and good PR?

(We are learning how much he cares for his wife.)

No offense, LP, but Favre has NO obligation to do such a thing. It doesn't make him an ass. It just makes it too bad the patient didn't request a guy that does do stuff like that. Just because you're famous, it doesn't mean you have to help people less fortunate or people who are very sick. We may frown on that, but it's the truth. Welcome to America.

One of the Vike's trainers said he was an ass.

Players have what they have because of fans. Yes, I expect them to give back.

AP went above and beyond.

    • He only wants to be traded because it's the Vikings who are calling. If he didn't want to be here, he could have retired, instead he took a pay raise to come back for another season.  I get it, it's an opportunity that he'd like to take, but we shouldn't cut off our nose to spite our face because he now wants to jump at this opportunity less than two weeks before the season starts. I'm not against trading him, I'm just against trading him for a return that doesn't help our team as much as having him on the roster would.  I'll put it this way, if a 5th is the best we can get for him from the Vikings and he's now dug in on not wanting to stay this year, I'm saying screw you and trading him to any of the other 30 teams besides the Vikings for the best offer we can get. He was perfectly happy here a week ago, if the Vikings soured him on that and then want to get him for peanuts, then screw them both.
    • Yes and no, he wants to go back and his wife most definitely wants to go back. He took a bunch of team mates to Minny and has worked out with JJ two offseasons in a row. It's where both him and his wife are from.    The money was basically a please come back and help Bryce. Pretty please...here's some more money.    Now he's agreed to a paycut to go back to the Vikings.
    • Because he won't be here next year, we aren't winning this year and we need to see if Renfrow or Horn can be that guy going forward. If Bryce isn't good enough to do poo without AT we need to find that out this year as well. I'm fine keeping him but his role needs to be slowly reduced throughout the year anyway so we know what we have for the future
