What Carolina Should Do Against San Francisco

Split backs with Goodson and Deangelo throwing a screen pass to either. And just keep running this play until the defense stops it. I can almost guarentee numerous first downs if carolina utilizes the screen pass heavily.

revolutionary. if some NFL front office reads this board you will be running a team in no time

49ers fan here. Heres my $0.02:

We (49ers) suck. Our defense is pathetic against screens, Panthers should try and throw the way of our Free Safety Dashon Goldson who stinks. Screen Passes absolutely kill this team, I think our starting CB Nate Clements is out so that should help you guys pass.

As for the 49ers offense? It flat out sucks. Literally, you MIGHT see one pass attempt beyond 10 yards. The Offensive Coordinator obviously doesn't trust Alex Smith and well any OC with a decent intelligence wouldn't trust Smith cause he sucks. You will see 4 maybe 5 offensive plays from the 49ers and here they are:

Play 1: Gore run up the middle

Play 2: Play Action Bootleg by Alex Smith, you will then see a confused look on Alex's face and then he will either; A) Throw it away, B) Run out of bounds or C) Throw it to the other team.

Play 3: In shotgun formation (ooohhhh) Smith will look around for about 2 seconds before dumping it off to Gore/Vernon Davis resulting in a nice 2 yard gain.

Play 4: Shotgun again, 4WR set, WR's run around randomly and Smith will throw it randomly, hoping that a WR will happen to be in the area to make a play on it.

Considering the 49ers travel across the country and play early, I would expect a close game going either way.

We're twin teams apparently.

We're twin teams apparently.

Funny you mention that. Our Inside Linebacker Takeo Spikes referred to Carolina as the "San Francisco 49ers of the East"

And you guys should be confident in knowing these facts:

49ers stink badly on the road, especially the early games.

You guys will outcoach us. No matter how bad you may think your coaches are, believe Singletary is worse. WAY worse.

Not that you guys care or need to hear it, but it's sad days for 49ers football. We were expected to walk away with the division, after constantly hearing it, you start to believe it. If you look at Alex Smith's stats last season (10 games) they aren't that bad and we drafted 2 O-Linemen so we expected big things and a comfortable division title. Yet here we stand at 1-5, we travel all the way to Carolina, followed by all the way to London, and yes that game counts as a "home" game

I think we need to throw out of 22 personnel (2 backs, 2 tight ends). We run about 90% of the time out of that group and all of our tight ends can catch a 10 yard pass when they high low Smith and crash 9 into the box. Our best chance in this game is to pay it close to the vest, not turn the ball over and wait for the 49ers to give the game away. If we come out actually trying to look like an NFL offense we will give the game away.

This is the type of post that gives me hope but then just makes me more depressed when we lose by 28 points.

Looks like your OC got a hold of Jeff Davidson's game plan.

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
