lol

you've guys have spent the last however many pages drooling over a coach without realizing the eagles won't let him interview

If it was the Giants that were looking at him, you have a point, they would certainly not grant him the interview.

But for a team that doesn't play in the division it's not that bad for them.

McDermott's given a lot to the Eagles. He was an assistant head coach for one year, but for some reason he was demoted. He's been with them for ten years and is still a position coach. I would be pissed if they refused me the opportunity to take a bigger command of a team's defense when I've given so much to them over the years.

haha so now teams are hording coaches for depth?

Injury report-Jim Johnson is questionable for Sunday's game. If he cannot call blitzes, backup Sean McDermott will likely fill in the role.

yes teams horde coaches as eventual replacements what an earth shattering concept.

you said he'd be pissed that he wasn't given a chance to command more of the team's defense.

i just pointed out you were wrong. they had done exactly that.

But he's not a DC. So it's not really "his" defense to lead. When I said "bigger command of a defense" I meant actually being a legit coordinator instead of filling in as a playcaller for a little while.

Plus, I don't know they type of money he makes but I'm willing to guess it's not as much as a DC makes. I could be wrong, but if I'm not, he knows he's got opportunity to make more money in a different city as well.

From what I know, Andy Reid isn't the type to hold his guys back. Of course, he got burned letting Spagnuolo go, so who knows?

(I'm not as interested in McDermott as others, but I like him)

he's under contract for one more year and I don't see the eagles letting him walk though its still a possibility, just not a likely one.

Gantt comments on the coaching situation:

Regarding Herm Edwards...

I don't think Herm Edwards ends up here coaching defensive backs. I don't think Herm Edwards ends up coaching anywhere. I think Herm Edwards ends up in a TV studio on Sunday mornings and afternoons.

At this point, it's probably his best bet, because he'd likely be able to go straight from TV to a head coaching gig in a year or two, and he'd be really good on TV. Really good. If you're a producer, put him next to Keyshawn, roll tape and put your feet up.

And regarding the open spots, including DC...

Call it a hunch, but I think the Panthers are going to have their staff together before the Super Bowl kicks off next Sunday night.

The one thing John Fox might be best at is talking people into stuff, and getting four guys to come work for him is the next thing on his list.

There are enough established guys out there to pick from, and honestly, I think they could take any of the established guys -- Dave McGinnis (a sleeper pick, who'd do a great job), Jim Haslett or Romeo Crennel -- and be fine.

Closing up shop for the night

(he also notes that the last time he "closed up shop", all hell broke loose)

    • As I've said numerous times the last few days, having Thielen on the field has literally 0% to do with my views on this (I've even said I think Renfrow is going to take a ton of snaps from Thielen anyways).  He has more value to this team without playing a single snap than a 2026 5th round draft pick does for the franchise.   His value is helping set up T-Mac, XL, Coker, and Horn for long term success by helping them learn how to be pros, how to go about their business, how to train, how to do all the little things that helped turn Thielen from a D2 undrafted player into a borderline Vikings legend.
    • He only wants to be traded because it's the Vikings who are calling. If he didn't want to be here, he could have retired, instead he took a pay raise to come back for another season.  I get it, it's an opportunity that he'd like to take, but we shouldn't cut off our nose to spite our face because he now wants to jump at this opportunity less than two weeks before the season starts. I'm not against trading him, I'm just against trading him for a return that doesn't help our team as much as having him on the roster would.  I'll put it this way, if a 5th is the best we can get for him from the Vikings and he's now dug in on not wanting to stay this year, I'm saying screw you and trading him to any of the other 30 teams besides the Vikings for the best offer we can get. He was perfectly happy here a week ago, if the Vikings soured him on that and then want to get him for peanuts, then screw them both.
    • Yes and no, he wants to go back and his wife most definitely wants to go back. He took a bunch of team mates to Minny and has worked out with JJ two offseasons in a row. It's where both him and his wife are from.    The money was basically a please come back and help Bryce. Pretty please...here's some more money.    Now he's agreed to a paycut to go back to the Vikings.
