Clausen actually looked like a pro QB today

top dawg

It's not an opinion. It's a fact. Without an O-Line an offense is nothing. Same thing with any defense. Football battles are won & lost in the trenches.

To a certain extent what you are saying is true.

However, the one individual with the most impact is the QB.

And I believe you will notice, we were talking about the one individual.

Not a good percentage of the entire offense.

Luck looks good, but want a QB with at least three years of consistency.

Showing that the future QB can take over and lead the team and have a winning record.

Some people ignore the basics.

Exactly. He's a sophmore. I would hesitate to draft him if he came out after this year on that alone. Regardless I honestly believe we will trade down and fill the positions of OL and DT.

call me crazy...

but I really don't care all that much about a college quarterback's record. I care about their college games, sure, but their record?? Meh. So much more goes into that than wins and losses...

also, RE the bowl thing, yes Clausen won a bowl game, but it hardly matters.

Just want JC to continue to show flashes the remainder of the season hopefully we have our future QB on the roster already in him. Gaining the in game experience through the ups and downs will only help him in the long run ala Freeman/Sanchez.

Saw what a productive running game could do for our QB just imagine if our oline would actually show up.

As far as Luck i Hope our qb of the future is already on the roster so we can focus on other needs like getting him help (Green) or getting a playmaker on D (Peterson).

If i wasn't on my cell phone I'd destroy this post. I'm not gonna claim he did great today, but the fact that you've either made stuff up or simply pulled it out of you rear shows how much of a troll you are.

It's pretty easy to read a drive chart off NFL.com, assneck.

Please remember fans of this team were crucifying Jake just a year or so ago for having stat lines very similar to this.

Get over yourself and stop making idiot statements before you get the facts, which I simply stated.

man, Jake, last year? Jake was throwing the ball to the other team a ton. Clausen had NO turnovers today. I would have applauded a Jake with no turnovers.

also, Jake wasn't a rookie, Jake had a great O-Line, and Jake had a great running game.

So yes. I had different standards for the two of them.

If you start making excuses for a quarterback in college, you will do the same for the QB in the NFL.

A really great QB will make most teams have a good record.

I believe I asked if he ever did, I didn't look it up and didn't know. Since Clausen only had one winning season, what 7-6, that must have sent ND to some bowl game. He never successfully put the team on his back though. Little chance he will do that for the Panthers either.

I don't really think that is as true in college as it is in the NFL. I also don't think that extreme success (to the point of putting teams on their back and carrying them) necessarily will translate into NFL success.

I don't care what Clausen did in college now. He's here, and I'll judge him based on what he does here - not what he did or didn't do at Notre Dame.

I'm giving the kid a solid C. Nothing to write home about, but he didn't look so lost and helpless out there. He didn't fail, he passed, and he did show some improvement. Let him have another try at it, he's earned it after today.

If he can at least look less than embarassing against the Ravens, I might go easier on him.

It's certainly a really good indicator. Better than listening to all the excuses being made for Clausen.

go to cleveland their you'll see a rookie Qb look like a pro

what a comparison...the browns' offense lives first and foremost b/c of their running game...and like we all know, a good running game opens up the passing game. goodson ran well today so that clausen had some room for solid pass plays.

furthermore, clausen was thrown in at the deep end all season long...b/c of that he wasn't able to get in rhythm at all. mccoy got his chance though wallace played good. imo, mangini is still an idiot but even he knows sth about the psychological side of that game...same poo goes with whisenhunt. what he does to his QBs is an absolute no-go.

Exactly. He's a sophmore. I would hesitate to draft him if he came out after this year on that alone. Regardless I honestly believe we will trade down and fill the positions of OL and DT.

with all due respect but that would be the most stupid step if your franchise need a new signal caller. and if you end up at 1st ovr, you will need one...it is not for nothing that luck is considered to go 1st ovr.

before the last draft, i discussed with a lot of people about the rams potential choice...there were guys out there who thought of a rebuilding through the lines and so on...normally it wouldn't be the wrong path but if you have needs all over the place, incl. the QB position, you have to go for a franchise QB at first. you can fill any other position in later rounds but not that one, at least not that often.
