Think there will be a rookie cap next off season?

What I am curious about is what happens if it is mid-summer or even mid-season that a CBA is reached? Assuming a Rookie cap is in place would the draft picks of the 11' draft be paid based on it or would it start for the 12' draft? I love Luck and all but can you imagine the contract he would demand right now.

From Andrew Brandt.

Will rookies get paid less with the new CBA? --Bill R.

Yes, certainly at the top of the Draft. Sam Bradford was the last bonus baby in the history of top picks in the NFL. Bradford can max out at about $78 million. The next top draft pick in the NFL will probably max out at about $20-25 million.

That sucks for the rookies but I also think 1st round picks contracts will only be 4 (or was it 3 cant remember) years. So if they actually live up to the hype it will only take a couple of years till when they'll able to renegotiate. Now I think more teams will be willing to gamble on big time talent that they wouldn't in years past because if they bust it wouldn't cripple the team for 3 or 4 years. Also trades into the top 5 will be far more prevalent.

    • It's just a talking head.  Talking about gambling. If anybody takes the under on 4.5 wins, they're most likely losing their money.   So he's only saying if you want to bet on a possible sleeper, take the over.  It's not rocket science.  Pathetic that so many on the huddle have reduced themselves to posting purely trash every time they hit the submit button.
    • I mean I think the best case scenario has to hit for the Panthers and everyone else in the NFCS has to hit their worst case scenario.  Personally, I think this is the year that NO finally collapses and I think they finish 4th in the division regardless.  ATL is overrated but still likely a 6-9 win team. TB plays tough football, their defense will be there but their success depends on the offense, they too are a 6-9 win team.  The Panthers are probably 4-6 wins at best. If they find some sort of momentum during the season and get 7-8 wins, and TB and ATL struggle then maybe but I find it very unlikely.
    • We screwed up a couple years ago taking Bryce in the first place.  Nobody held a gun to our head to jump from #9 to #1.  Most people who keep up with draft news knew this 2024 QB class was loaded and we should have waited, which I advocated. It was a dumb move and I knew it.  Now we have to roll with Bryce another year.  That's fine, because this 2025 class isn't that great.  I like Ewers, but not super high on him.  If Bryce shows improvement, which I think he will, that should get him at least one more season before we have to decide on if he's the permanent answer or not.  I've said before, the 2026 draft is the next window for a franchise QB if Bryce isn't the answer. Bryce gets this year and next at a minimum.
