A Gross miscalculation?

top dawg

Funny to think him and Kalil are the only ones on the line right now from 2008 while everyone claims it's a really crappy line. Of course it is, more than half the guys are back ups.

Gross and Kalil are getting beat one on one with guys. That's on them.

Also, Wharton is a legitimate starter playing like ass too.

Not as much as you're claiming. Even pro bowlers get beat so yeah they're gonna look stupid at some points. The right side of the line has been constantly beat this year. Yeah its the line but its not like it needs a major renovation, it just needs to get healthy.

Gross has been letting rushers by all season. This isn't a generalization based on one play. It's been a theme.

That said, I still think Kalil and Gross are great players. With a new staff/offense/QB next year and Otah back I'm sure the O-line will go back to playing well. It's just disappointing that they never gave this season a shot when they were supposed to be our strength.

People also forget that our pass protection even with Jake back there was AWFUL last season despite our success on the ground. We blamed everybody else but the offensive line for that problem. Jake is holding onto the ball too long, etc. But in the end, it's just as likely that our guys are simply better at run blocking than they are in protection. It's not really out of the realm of reasonable to suspect that.

When you come off the line to run block, you usually initiate contact with the defender. Not always the case in pass blocking especially for your exterior linemen. When you drop back into pass protection, footwork is important and athleticism is tested. You also have to, as an interior lineman, recognize stunts and coverage shifts.

When you're run blocking, it's pretty straight ahead kind of blocking and strength vs. strength.

    • Been here since middle school right when it started around 2003 after the charlotte.com one. Living outside of Carolina it was tough to find good Panthers content, news or analysis. And no one to talk to about it. This place gave me a lot though I don’t often post. In the later days, I particularly Loved PhillyB’s write ups. They were fire. Too bad I go let it go. I appreciate the hell out of @MHS831 @TheSpecialJuan @Jackie Lee and others who have been posting great content and keeping this place worth coming back to. Particularly during the offseason. Appreciate y’all!
    • Nice explanation, but I was just messing with you. Thought that would be obvious. I dont have the energy to keep on trolling. Last season I compared our situation with Bryce as a potential Alex Smith, but what we should be looking for is our version of Mahomes. Some people will read that as one sentence, to me that single sentence is equivalent to a half A4 explanationf of the teams pathway forward.
    • I dont know how much of his salary would come across and how much a trade would cost but I feel Kmet would be the sort of TE Canales and Morgan would like
