Tampa 2, throught he eyes of Wikipedia

I understand wikipedia isn't a "real source" for you college guys, but its interesting to read up on scheme. Actually started with the 70's steelers team, and needs a MLB to "stir the drink together." Do we have the team speed to play this style, if implemented? I know Beason is the MLB to "stir the drink."

Any thoughts?

beason would be dropping back and helping fill the soft spots. i think he could handle that.

We've already seen him cover the deep field, he's pretty good at it.

Beason has the mold of a cover 2 backer. He's smaller, solid tackler, and he does well in coverage. I remember that same year we drafted him Cato June was ready to leave Indianapolis, and a lot of people were saying they would've drafted him if he made it to pick #52. Of course, he never did.

So now Meeks has the opportunity to coach the kid he probably scouted heavily prior to the 2007 draft.

the obvious question is our D-line in a tampa2, but can harris cover in the tampa 2? he seems more of a run stopping safety, with some speed concerns, which the tampa2 calls for. can he cover the field? i remember in the giants game, there were some plays down the stretch he was behind in the pack. IMO...maybe im just mistaken.

While the Tampa2 does put a huge burden on your safeties, it's success, more or less, is about the play of the front 7. That's really not all that different than it has been in our defense since 2002. Or since...ever really.

i personally think, for the time of defense we have played, harris is great. he's a hard hitter, run supporter and creates turnovers, which the tampa 2 calls for, turnovers by thier safeties. but then again, arn't all defenses created to cause turnovers?

If we play Tampa 2, we'll get eaten alive because of the lack of speed and pass rushing ability from our 4 lineman...especially with Peppers gone.
