charles johnson vs. julius peppers 2010

Peppers is on the downside of his career, while CJ is in his prime. If you asked me who is better, I say CJ is. I think CJ has the opportunity to be better than Peppers ever was if we can get CJ some help at DT. (Remember while Julius was here he had Rucker and Jenkins helping him out. If we can pick up a great DT, CJ may get 16 or more sacks a season. He has the work ethic and ability to do so)

CJ doesn't have more potential...

Pep was a freak of nature and is actually tehcnically very sound as well. He had the potential to make a game changing play every time he set foot on the field and won us a lot of games that we shouldn't have.

CJ is just a very high calibre DE who is quality against the run and the pass, however he lacks the game changing plays Pep used to and can still produce.

CJ is playing like he wants to be here, Peppers didn't, screw 'em, hes not on this team anymore. Im excited for CJ, and hope hes a panther for the long run. hes earned a new deal, and hopefully one gets worked out. also, you look at the Bears' Dline and look at ours. CJ is doing about the same with less. Hes a baller simply put.

Wow... the homerism resounds...

CJ will never be close to Pep as far as talent/ability/play goes...

If you want to argue heart and effort, maybe you have more of a case, but as an overall player, that is laughable...

okay I'm not going to say that Johnson is better than Peppers, because he isn't at the moment. I've seen most Bears games and it is obvious that Peppers is making a huge impact in every game, so his stats(or lack there of) are misleading.. HOWEVER-

it's flat out wrong to say that Johnson will never be close to Peppers in ability/play. you could say he'll never be close to the athlete that Peppers is and it would be closer to the truth(there's only a handful of players in the league that are comparable to Peppers as an athlete..) but to say he'll never be a better player isn't right.

Trent Cole isn't near the athlete that Peppers is, but most would argue that he's the better player(Cole is probably the best complete DE in the league when it comes to pass rushing/defending the run.)

long story short:

fact - Peppers, right now, is the better player and his stats are misleading

NOT a fact - Peppers will always be better than Johnson because he's a better athlete

    • Not in same league. Caldwell just hit a 10.00 on the RAS. 2nd out of 3830 from 1987 onward.  https://x.com/MathBomb/status/2027885023387349047 Yeah I mean Louis had a sub 9.00 RAS. Still very very good, no doubt. Louis is small, no 2 ways about it. He is likely a sub package lb in nickel packages or specialized WLB. Be fine ST gunner to start for sure. 6 foot flat and 220lb is pushing it for a starting LB. At 10 to 20lbs less than the other LBs he'd better be closer to the top in most timed drills. He's gonna be challenged when some of the wrs in the class can matchup bigger stronger faster, much less TE in the run game.  Yeah instinct matter and he has them, but that size is a massive red flag compared to many of the other LBS in this class.    Rodriguez is the LB that really climbed this week from a pure grit guy to great flash with athleticism people wrote off cause he was a QB at first at UVA. 18.4mph in the backpedal. Production the last 2 years were great. I'd be thrilled with him as the future mike.   Hill likely moved out of 51 and into the top 45 picks ( Ravens at 45 I can't imagine don't bite if he makes it there). Honestly Hill imo is a 1st rounder and I'd be ok with him as he fits the MLB we have missed the last few years. People would crow it's a reach but he's top 30 all-time I'm RAS for a LB at 9.9+ . Plus he was big time in big games when he was healthy. And that br a big check: meds.
    • Miller, Melo, Coby, Moose, and Bridges all on the floor at the same time must be a nightmare for defenses lol. Switch one out for Kon and still a nightmare. Coby really does bring a true 6th man value and looks like he could start if Melo was out after only a few games of getting his feet wet.
