If we get Luck, Bring Jake back..

2011 Depth Chart:

1. Luck

2. Clausen

3. Delhomme

Haven't read a single good argument as to why we shouldn't bring Jake back. Is he fit to be a starter? Absolutely not, that's why he'd be our third stringer. Anyone who says that every QB on the roster should be starter-material is delusional. Not every team in the league has three starting-caliber quarterbacks on the roster. Probably half of the teams in the league have two, and the second would be a seriously sub-par starter.

Let me say this once more: We WILL sign a veteran QB. We won't bring in a veteran to start, or even to play. We'll bring in a veteran simply to mentor Clausen and Luck and to step in in the unlikely event that both of them are hurt. Now the selection of veteran QB's isn't going to be great, and some of them will ask for large contracts and think that they can still start (Hasselbeck, McNabb). Why not go for a cheap veteran who will understand and accept his role as a mentor?

exactly. Delhomme doesn't have to teach them about mechanics or how to be a QB, but he's the first guy i would want teaching them about how to be a leader and how to carry the team when everyone else is down.

no sence in having a malcontent take up a roster spot.

Sorry, I didn't realize you were my english teacher for the day. Anyway what do you not understand about 3rd string quarterback.

This is each team's 3rd string quarterback and if Jake Delhomme is not the best out of all of those then I concede my point.

Buffalo Bills- Levi Brown (No Pro Experience.)

Miami Dolphins- None

New England Patriots- None

New York Jets- Kellen Clemens (Has played in 24 games and has a touchdown to interception ratio of 5 to 11, -4.)

Baltimore Ravens- None

Cincinnati Bengals- Dan LeFevour (No Pro Experience.)

Cleveland Browns- Jake Delhomme (Has played in 102 games, has played in the Super Bowl, and has a touchdown to interception ratio of 125 to 101, +24.)

Pittsburgh Steelers- Charlie Batch (Has played in 74 games and has a touchdown to interception ratio of 60 to 47, +13.)

Houston Texans- Matt Leinart (Has played in 29 games and has a touchdown to interception ratio of 14 to 20, -6.)

Indianapolis Colts- None

Jacksonville Jaguars- Todd Bouman (Has played in 13 games and has a touchdown to interception ratio of 13 to 13, 0.)

Tennessee Titans- Rusty Smith (Has played in 2 games and has a touchdown to interception ratio of 0 to 4, -4.)

Denver Broncos- Brady Quinn (Has played in 14 games and has a touchdown to interception ratio of 10 to 9, +1.)

Kansas City Chiefs- Tyler Palko (Has played in 1 game and has a touchdown to interception ratio of 0 to 0, 0.)

Oakland Raiders- J.T. O'Sullivan (Has played in 17 games and has a touchdown to interception ratio of 9 to 13, -4.)

San Diego Chargers- None

Dallas Cowboys- None

New York Giants- None

Philadelphia Eagles- Mike Kafka (No Pro Experience.)

Washington Redskins- John Beck (Has played in 5 games and has a touchdown to interception ratio of 1 to 3, -2.)

Chicago Bears- Caleb Hanie (Has played in 4 games and has a touchdown to interception ratio of 0 to 1, -1.)

Detroit Lions- Drew Stanton (Has played in 12 games and has a touchdown to interception ratio of 5 to 9, -4.)

Green Bay Packers- Graham Harrell (No Pro Experience.)

Minnesota Vikings- Patrick Ramsey (Has played in 35 games and has a touchdown to interception ratio of 35 to 30, +5.)

Atlanta Falcons- John Parker Wilson (No Pro Experience.)

Carolina Panthers- Keith Null (Has played in 4 games and has a touchdown to interception ratio of 3 to 9, -6.)

New Orleans Saints- None

Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Rudy Carpenter (No Pro Experience)

Arizona Cardinals- Derek Anderson (Has played in 51 games and has a touchdown to interception ratio of 53 to 55, -2.)

St. Louis Rams- None

San Francisco 49ers- David Carr (Has played in 92 games and has a touchdown to interception ratio of 65 to 71, -6.)

Seattle Seahawks- J.P. Losman (Has played in 43 games and has a touchdown to interception ratio of 33 to 34, -1.)

Out of all the third string quarterback's listed only 4 have thrown more touchdowns than interceptions, those being Jake Delhomme, Charlie Batch, Patrick Ramsey, and Brady Quinn.

Jake Delhomme- +24

Charlie Batch- +13

Patrick Ramsey- +5

Brady Quinn- +1

And out of all of the third string quarterbacks in the League only one has played in the Super Bowl, that being Jake Delhomme.

We would not be bringing Jake Delhomme in to lead the Carolina Panthers, we would be leading him in mentoring and helping the younger guys progress. A coach can only do so much, especially if that coach has never played quarterback or played in the Super Bowl. A player with experience is just as valuable as a coach with experience because when a player needs to talk with someone they don't go to the coach they go to another player that plays their position. Unfortunatley, none of our quarterbacks have enough experience that a player should even consider going to consult with one of these quarterbacks. You have to realize we are not asking Jake Delhomme to teach them how to play quarterback, you are putting Jake Delhomme in their to keep their emotions in check which Jimmy Clausen really needs right now. Now some of you against him being our third quarterback, would rather have him as a coach where he is actually teaching guys how to throw the ball. That would be worse than just sticking him on the roster. At least as a third string quarterback he is not teaching guys bad techniques and mechanics, but as a coach he possibly could be. Just because he can't start does not mean he would not be a good option. Any team could always use a veteran quarterback.

Here is a little interesting tid bit.

Games Played

Panther Quarterback's Combined (Matt Moore, Jimmy Clausen, Tony Pike, Armanti Edwards, Brian St. Pierre, and Keith Null)- 42 Games

Jake Delhomme- 102 games.

People need to face the reality that teams do need at least one veteran quarterback on their team unless they happen to have a quarterback like Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, or Michael Vick on their team. However, when you don't have a player like that it won't hurt to add a veteran to mentor your young quarterbacks and Jake Delhomme would be one of the best options to do that.

Id rather find a better QB coach than someone who is just gonna take up a crucial roster spot that can't do anything more than possibly "mentor" the rookies.

Wtf else is a third QB going to do? In almost every case, the third QB isn't going to play. So, for our third QB we can either get some POS young guy who won't ever amount to anything, or we can get an experienced veteran who can be a positive influence on our starter and our #2.

A good vet that can be the #2 and can pitch in when the #1 goes down is much more beneficial to the team while Pike/Clausen/maybe even Moore is the #3. Then when the vet is gone, the #3 QB can become the #2 and will, if everything goes to plan, become a younger version of the vet that just left and can also pitch in when the #1 goes down. Having a piece of sh** vet in the mix that can't play worth a damn, while taking up a roster spot, does us no good.

besides one of the biggest reasons we let go of Delhomme anyway is because if we kept him, there would be a divided locker room and would be no way this franchise could move forward with someone else under center taking charge. It would just be a huge setback to bring him back. Get over it.
