What kind of work do you do?

I work for a Third Party Retirement Plan Administrator. If you have a small-medium sized business and you need a qualified retirement plan, I'm your gal. Basically am a sales and marketing assistant along with office manager. No, this is not what I want to be doing.

I freaking left my last job to leave the financial services industry and somehow landed myself right back in it.

What I would really like to do is get into some sort of sales for an international company (international business major)

JBro, are they still going to be hiring someone in your sales dept.

I'm a writer.

You too? What do you write?

I'm a writer for an e-commerce site. I write a lot of boring product descriptions and also head up the company blog and social media accounts. There's a lot of search engine optimization (SEO) involved.

It's pretty boring stuff, and I don't get paid that well (certainly not as well as most in the field). But there are few other opportunities out there right now.

I've thought about freelancing a little on the side. Maybe once I build up a sizable portfolio and have a decent client base, I could do that full-time -- but it would take a lot of work. I think my mind is more suited to writing ad copy. I think that's something I'd love to do, but it's very tough to get your foot in the door.

Also, I'm a full-time message board poster.

I've written for TV news, advertising agencies, newspapers and magazines, and I was the Editor of a magazine. Currently, I am a freelancer for a big media company, and they send me assignments to write articles for their magazines.

Like PhillyB, I have thought about writing a book, but my interests and focus have changed so much over the years, I'm not sure what my topic would be.

I've written for a couple papers as well, and currently do a little freelancing on the side.

I've also thought about writing a book or a screenplay, though I can never commit to a topic either. There are a few ideas I keep coming back to that I'm sure I'll write about one day.

I did write a goofy short film about zombies that was produced and did well enough at various festivals, but I'd like to do something a bit more serious than that.

I'm a writer too, for my economics teacher. But really, I design email systems and general infrastructure typically. I design it and let someone else do the dirty work of implementing it. :D

Sound like me. I'm a Systems Engineer. I design everything, but my company is too damn cheap to hire me some help (even if hiring someone would save money in contractor fees), so I have to implement it too.

    • Yeah well I was agaisnt Hurney coming back and then helping hire Rhule but it happened anyways. Tepper has made it so bad and it's still ongoing currently.
    • Yeah, that "Me against the world" mentality can work....when you are right and know what you are doing. But if you don't know what you are doing and can't accept that you need to learn, that is an impossible hill to climb.
    • I can’t argue too hard with established track records. Just hope because it has happened before.   I think it takes massive and embarrassing failure. It isn’t hard to conceptualize the general truism that success in one field does not guarantee success in another. I have had to experience that in my the hard way before, dealing with a self made millionaire friend.  Getting them to understand that is very difficult. I had to part ways to escape it 30 years later, he still hasn’t learned. But he isn’t my problem anymore….  Tepper cannot be excised so easily.
