Well technically Gilbert was the Redskins Franchise designee and the compensation was 2 1st round picks. But this is right up there with the worst personel moves in NFL history, not just Panther history.

The Edwards trade was bad. No one, and I mean NO ONE, would have ever thought we would have been the worst team in the league and that would ultimately be the 33rd pick in the draft. I was thinking it would be a mid 2nd round pick.

Unless Edwards actually turns into a bonafied star at receiver, 10 years from now the Edwards trade will rarely be mentioned. It will be a footnote in Panther history. But the Gilbert trade will still be thought of as one of the worst in franchise history.

I'm guessing from what I heard during the draft that a few teams were High on AE and were thinking about taking him late 3rd/early 4th before Carolina Picked again....or MH was just tricked.....either way, there was a good chance he wasn't there the next Panther pick
