Pretty funny they try and make the USA look good comparing it to China. A 5% increase for China is actually not that bad. Look at their population, look at the USAs, and yet we still use much more oil than them. Take a look and 500 random cars in the USA, more than half will be huge SUVs or Trucks and half of those people will be single adults or a married couple. Look into china, Japan or Asia in general even Europe. You see smaller cars, used more efficiently. Even traffic/speed signs are made to be more efficient. When talking oil, USA is going to fug the world over completely. This is not even the biggest issue, the biggest issue is that people here know, they just don't care. Ignorance cannot be blamed and a disaster is inevitable. Things will only change once it effects us individually. The disaster having no oil could bring is pretty big and at the least extremely expensive to find another source. Be assured, lives/countries will be lost when oil runs low. Without the USA oil not existing wouldn't even be an issue.

Now THAT is disgusting.

"Core inflation" - measured using the PCE index - is designed specifically to exclude volatile prices like gas. The Fed started using the PCE a while ago instead of the Consumer Price Index to guide monetary policy. I'm an economist and pretty much every one I know uses the CPI which includes food and gas. That includes multiple economists and statisticians that work for various federal govt agencies. It's like the various definitions of unemployment. You just have to know what you're looking at. It's not some sinister plot to deceive the American public. Ok sorry for Tinderboxifying this post. I'lll go away now.

Yeah, it is to deceive the public. We see prices go up, and the Government says no inflation. Yet people have less and less money every week. Even with that great raise they got. So you go ahead and spin it for your overlords. But after the all the inflation in the 70's they took food and gas out for a reason....to deceive.

I get medicare disability. This makes the 3rd straight year with no COLA! (Cost Of Living) increase. WHY? Because the government doesn't take in account Gas and Food prices when figuring up the Cost of Living!

They say both are too volatile to include. If it goes up one year they have to pay more, but what happens if one or both go down? Then the Government would have to cut the payment. I guess I understand this. 5 years ago we were paying $4.35/gallon for gas. But when was the last time that food actually came down and stayed down?

Come on man! The is no inflation. there is no Cost of living increase. Everything is fine, Go back to sleep. Your Government cares about you and is doing everything it can to protect you. sleep....sleeep....sleeeeeep...

Yeah, people were using that same argument years ago too.

Our "traffic/speed signs" are used to optimize traffic and ensure safety, not increase fuel efficiency.

Actually the old 55 mile speed limit was intended to save on fuel consumption.

"The National Maximum Speed Law in the United States was a provision of the 1974 Emergency Highway Energy Conservation Act that prohibited speed limits higher than 55 mph "

I still think it's hilarious how people just proceeded as normal when gas came back down a couple years ago.

For a few months anyone in a fuel efficient vehicle seemed like a genius, but as soon as the price of gas came back down people were lining up to buy giant SUVs again, serves them right.

Ini I agree partially about mass transit. I use mass daily myself. The hidden issue now is with so many unemployed, that group is now driving all over creation looking for a job instead of something stationary like to their actual job.

This has benefited OPEC and big oil by accident because more daily driving in terms of distance and time has increased. This just won't show up in any report as for as work commute goes.

Ideally tho, yes, bus and light rail use is a smart thing.

I saw a report that trucks and SUVs have outsold hybrids and small cars for the past year in the US, by a large margin. I guess the SUV drivers were laughing at those dorks driving the Smart cars but uh oh, um, wait, its costing "HOW" much to fillup now? People be stupid.

In fairness, due to the surplus of those vehicles from the last gas price spike they were really cheap.

Still though, people should have known better. idjits

I'll drive my 30mpg 1.8 liter 4 banger til she blows up, then get a hybrid

I sold my truck and got a more fuel efficient car (30-32 mpg). I really miss my truck sometimes, but as you said, I knew better than to consider getting a truck again. So, yeah, 4cyls rock baby.

(AP) Stable gas prices mean more consumers have been willing to buy more trucks and SUVs. In fact, Edmunds.com says they've sold better than compact cars and hybrids this year.

Edmunds says truck sales are expected to be up 14.9 percent, and SUV sales up 21.3 percent over last year. Midsize car sales are expected to be up 7.8 percent over 2009. Hybrid sales are down 8.1 percent, and compact car sales are up just 1.1 percent.

    • Yeah. As a wild card team. Washington won the division at 10-6.
    • no doubt but flip that.   The current system insures that there are "regional" games in the early weeks. maximizing the reach of playoff football.  If all of the WC weekend for a conference took place on the west coast they are reducing the "reach" of their hype machine.
    • Hard to say with London--he never ran--combine or pro day.  Here is what AI says, and it is always 100% accurate: Drake London's 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine was not recorded because he was dealing with a fractured ankle at the time. While he didn't participate in the 40 at the Combine or his pro day, his coach said his 40 time was estimated to be between 4.4 and 4.53 seconds. Some sources also list his 40 time at 4.58 and 4.6 seconds Unless you are running 9s all day, top end 40 speed is rarely reached.  I have always looked at the 3-cone drill.  At his pro day, TMac ran a 6.86--pretty good, actually.  For context, it is faster that Rome Odunze (6.88) who ran a 4.45 40.  Odunze is 6'3" and weighs 216, fwiw, and is considered a very good route runner with no wasted motion.  Mike Evans 3-cone was 7.08.  To put it in a broader context, through 2022, with all NFL prospect 3-cone drills combined, a 6.86 puts TMac in the.89th percentile-  Now consider the fact that he is 6'4" and 220.   We might have something here.  '
