So who here thinks Matt Moore will get re-signed for next year?

No, I don't like it. Draft Luck, sign a vet and keep Pike. Moore needs to walk and trade Clausen to a team who thinks he still has upside. Unfortunately I fear that an early 4th round pick might be the best we can hope to get for him.

lol, there is no way in hell that we get a 4th for jimmy... not gonna happen. There aren't many quality veteran QBs out there that Id be interested in signing. If we do, they'd be of the Marc Bulger type who come in strictly to teach and mentor. Id be fine resigning Moore, but Im a fan of his so take that for what its worth. At the very least you let him come into training camp and battle it out with Jimmy and the crew. Hes been nothing but a serviceable backup and he said he wants to stay in Carolina. Why not?

Why do you think signing a vet is better than Moore? How would it benefit the team as whole in a rebuilding process?

Money? No....a vet would cost more.

Experience with the franchise? No...Matt wins this easily over a vet.

Future? No....Matt is still young enough to be a solid back-up for another 5 years and I personally would want some consistency there.

Heart? Matt WANTS to be a Panther. Enough said.

Competition? Matt would keep the rookies on their toes. A vet would not as the rookies would KNOW he would be a one season deal at the most and would be out shortly.

And finally, what exactly has Pike done to want to keep him over Moore?

I know I'm gonna catch poo for this... but I'm throwing it out there.

Moore should be retained pending his rehab success. Why?

Because he's a solid backup. He won just as many games for us this year as any other QB, and stepped in when Delhomme had his breakdown (or broken finger or whatever).

I warned of it happening, and it did.... he was thrown on the altar of sacrifice by Fox this year. As JR admitted today, there was a ton more happening in that Locker Room with ownership and Fox, and Moore bore the brunt of it. And did it with class.

He's NOT a bad QB. He's not a MVP caliber, or Lombardi caliber QB, but he can step in and win when a good starter of this caliber goes down.

I say he stays as #2.

I think there will be a lot of QB jobs opening up this off season.

I think he will consider teams in which he has a chance to start first.

I then think he will consider which backup offer is the best in terms of money, location, starting QB, etc with Carolina the front runner.

If those don't pan out then he'll obviously take anything.

You'll have to excuse Dpantherman... Mother Nature brought her a present this week...

I think he was trying to do the "cool" thing or what he thought the majority opinion would be and was wrong. More people are open to the idea now because of the way Clausen has played, the way the season played out, and what else is out there.

Also, he is the sexiest man in Charlotte. If he leaves, could he hold that title in two cities or would he have to forfeit the title?

oh and yeah, I would bring Moore back but I don't know if they will... Pike might have a better chance to be here with Luck/Clausen...

While I like Pike's personality and maturity better than Clausen's, I think him and Clausen are in the same boat. Both still incredibly risky. But Clausen at least has some good game experience now, and if it came to it, I can't see the Panthers picking Pike over Clausen or Moore.

Pike's only chance is a superb training camp and pre-season. Anything less, and I see him getting cut.
