Sources: Panthers to pick Andrew Luck

Wonder if those "sources" are JR and Hurney from the press conference, stating that they plan on not giving away their #1 pick.

that's EXACTLY what I was thinking when I read this .. they never said they were picking Luck .. just that they would not trade away the pick .. lol

Read the responses from Atlanta fans. They dont want us to draft Luck.

"doesnt matter who the qb is on panthers need other players. would be a mistake to give up on clausen this early. should trade pick to some1 like the 49ers for alot of picks and try to rebuild this team. u got way bigger needs then qb"

"as a falcons fan i am laughing at the panthers!!! lol go ahead plz draft another qb."

"What a horrible situation for Luck going to the panthers. No head coach, no defense and no legit wr's under 30. It will be at least 3-5 years before panthers are playing well eneough to make a playoff run. You guys should have kept Fox around, at least then you would have a solid system in place."

Apparently, NOBODY but us watches our games lol.

They're idiots. If Luck would've been the QB this year, we would've won at least 5+ more games. Imagine Gettis and Lafell with Luck next year... AND if Smitty comes back, wow...

We're not as far off as they think. I literally think that's the piece we need to make us a consistent winner, everything else can be addressed as we go. DT is a close second.

That called a fanbase talking scared. I know a good amount of Falcon, Saints, and Buc fans that do not want to see Luck in the division because they know that they would have to actually respect the Panthers passing game.

Actually, part of one of those posts might be a very good reason why Luck may stay in school another year. If he declares, chances are very good that he'll be going to a team with an unknown factor at HC. That is assuming that JR/Hurney even see Luck as a #1 prospect (after all, quite a few think he was seeing Harbaugh as a #1 prospect).

I get it' date=' you think Luck isn't worth the pick. Guess what very few share your opinion......[/quote']

He's worthy of the pick, certainly, but we have too much to fix and an impatient fanbase. The question is can he win immediately? The odds say no. Who knows though, an offensive-minded coach could potentially speed his progress. It's a matter of free agency and we still have the same FO. Unless they change course, I'm sticking to my guns. If Hurney miraculously plugs a few holes with decent FAs, I'll be more open to drafting Luck.

I still think we're one of the best, 1st round pick teams in a LONG team though. If we had slightly above average QB play this year we could have made noise.

I agree completely the Panthers are one of the best teams to have the #1 pick in a long time... meaning you are not going to a black hole and it is generally a very good organization to play for.

    • Ravens mixing it up with a random Mark Andrew tush push last year isn't a similar situation.  Lamar has run QB sneaks his entire career.  And often instead of a traditional sneak will even employ a 4th and 1 direct snap to Lamar simply because of how athletic he is (which even Cam did a lot of) and let him pick his own holes.
    • height being an issue doesn't just mean batted balls.  You could argue Bryce minimizes batted balls by adopting other poor habits such as his jump passing and leaving the pocket.   As I said, there are plays you can point to where he clearly was blind to parts of the field/players....which kills plays and opportunity. Which actually means some of the shorter/hot throws when things break down are where his vision gets blocked (and he had below average production all around the line of scrimmage).   has he figured it out? I mean, he improved off a trainwreck start.  But Bryce Young since arriving in the league (even while figuring it out)......doesn't generate much offensive production vs his peers.  I just think his ceiling is low.   And that's not in the grand scheme what you want in the NFL.  I think he can develop into a serviceable QB, that will largely always been a middle of the pack or low end starter.
    • People make a lot of noise about his footwork and I think it is overblown. Whether he takes 3 steps backwards or 5 small steps doesn't matter as long as he ends up at the right depth and is in sync with  the receiver regarding timing. If he does that consistently who cares as long as he has a firm stable base as he delivers the ball. Which he does need to work on. However even that is somewhat overblown given that often QBs have to throw off balance or from different arm angles to fit the ball around defenders. He is considered very accurate so apparently it isn't hurting him that much.
