My vote for who we should take #1, Patrick Peterson

Not the biggest need (but still a pretty big one) and not a top value position like a QB but without-a-doubt the best player on the board. The guy is an absolute beast, best DB prospect to come around in a VERY long time, lives and breathes football and elevates the play of everyone around him. Not to mention he's made himself into a top return man as well. Here watch this and get all hyped and sh*t.

i wouldn't complain. but what about the offense? they have to make an effort.

Honestly, no matter who you take the offense is still going to be bad. Worst team in the league and it's not going to turnaround overnight. I'd rather start building by adding the best guys we can get rather than being desperate and reaching for guys that aren't really that good.

And AJ Green is one of the best guys we can get and he is also an offensive weapon that we will be in desperate need of a year from today when Smith will no longer be thought of as Elite.

Why is this so hard? It's Green. It's easy.

The only reason I would take a defensive pick is if I thought it could bring me a trade worth more to us than AJ Green, say like a DAMN GOOD QB!

FWIW this is the guy that shut down AJ Green, though I wouldn't hate taking Green either. Offense, probably best you can do is get a new offensive system and coaches in there. Fix the OLine, add a WR pickup or two through FA, trade up into the 2nd and take Kyle Rudolph, add a vet QB like Hasselbeck, ect, ect. Still plenty of moves there to be made.

Am I the only one that sees the importance of finding Smith's replacement now before we realize how bad we need him?

You cannot get that kind of WR though FA, young and with his whole career ahead of him, without giving up huge money or something very valuable for him like another high draft pick. What would be the point?

Capable receivers, and excellent receivers with a potential to become your main offensive weapon are two different beasts.

You can win championships with an elite receiver and a capable QB and even make it to the Superbowl. We have done that with Jake, Smith and Moose.

You cannot do that with "capable" receivers and average QBs.

We have a ton of needs. #1 receiver to replace Smitty, RG, LT to replace Gross (who is more of a RT anyway), TE, QB, DT X 2, CB, another DE in the rotation would help, good safety to move Godfrey to depth, PK to replace Kasay. F**k our team is a mess.

    • Sounds like he wasn't picked up and is now on the Panthers' IR. THE DREAM STILL LIVES
    • There are a lot of question marks surrounding TMo right now. There were whispers leading into the draft that the team was ready to move on due to a knee issue, but they came away with no real backup plan outside of BC. Maybe the knee isn't as serious as feared… or maybe it was just front office gamesmanship, like we saw with the Jalon Walker rumors. With Icky's second contract on the horizon, the team's probably hoping Moton is open to a team-friendly extension. His consistency over the years has been incredibly underappreciated. Hunt's grades dipped last season--particularly in pass pro, where he ranked 54th among guards with 500+ pass-blocking snaps. That's not ideal, but when you step back, it's still starting-caliber play. In the run game, he was more effective--posting the 14th-highest run-blocking grade among guards with 300+ run-blocking snaps. DLew, meanwhile, was a warrior. He played through a shoulder injury all season and still ranked 17th in pass-blocking + 10th in run-blocking under those same filters. Context matters here too... in terms of 2024 cap hits, Hunt was the 17th-highest paid guard at $6.45M while DLew was 25th at $4.9M. DLew absolutely outplayed the first year of his deal. Looking ahead, Hunt will carry the #3 highest cap hit among guards in 2025 at $21.65M, while DLew will be #10 at $14.57M. If DLew maintains that level of play and Hunt bounces back in pass pro? Oooh wee mayne. That said, decisions are coming. DLew can be cut in 2026 for $9M in savings, or in 2027 for $13M. Hunt is more locked in: his contract opens up flexibility starting in 2027 ($14.3M savings) and jumps to $18M in 2028. And then there's the biggest unresolved piece: center. Cade Mays looked solid when called upon, and Christensen didn't look out of place either. Corbett's durability is a fair concern... he hasn't been able to stay on the field the past two years. If Mays locks down the center job, I think the front office moves quickly to secure RT next. Once the bookends are in place, the interior OL becomes the next long-term focus. Hopefully, they're already developing some of those answers internally.
    • Revisiting the Prediction thread from April 3--a full 3 weeks before the draft.  I thought this was interesting because I was just repeating rumors and infusing them with my comments.  We trust names like McShay--look how wrong he was! Green indicates the rumor came true in some form.  Red indicates that the rumor was wrong-- Rumor:  McShay just reported in his podcast that the "winds have shifted" about Shedeur Sanders.  He referenced back in October when Dad basically said, "If we tell you not to draft him, don't draft him" to Shedeur wearing a Browns hat. (Nobody thought this would happen in round 5 or with the Browns).  Recently, Deion has come out to announce that he is OK with wherever his son goes--while the intentions were good, he is still one-too-many voices in the process.  I think it was at the combine when Shedeur responded to a question, "Do you know who my dad is?"  while laughing.  He was asked about the Raiders during an interview, and Shedeur said, "I ain't going sixth..." (if he meant 'round' he was right--but he meant overall)  He was referencing living with criticism, etc. but continually referencing Dad may not be helping--but this shift in his and his father's approach to the draft suggests that they are not quite as confident, now that teams have signed free agents.  McShay suggests that Cam will go #1 to the Titans, but the Browns may not think Sanders (who some have a second round grade on--he has him at #19 overall) is worth the #2 pick, and that might lead to them taking the best player in the draft (Carter, but do not rule out Hunter).  Side Rumor:  There are rumblings that the Browns could land Cousins from the Falcons, giving them a starting QB and the #2 overall pick. The Giants just signed Russell Wilson and J. Winston. Daboll and Shoen may not be ready to put their jobs on the back of a developmental QB--so they take the best player on their board, Hunter (if the Browns take Carter).  New England probably drafts an OT, but they would like to trade back. Some mocks have them taking Jeanty--but I do not see Vrabel going RB with so many needs.   Side Rumor:  The Jets may want to move up for Hunter (if he is there) and the Pats may want to move back and take a T.  So if Hunter is on the board at #4, look for a NY-Boston trade. The Jags do not need a QB, but most mocks have them staying put and taking Mason Graham, DT Michigan.  Side Rumor:  The smart money has the Jags taking Mason Graham, but some think they are in love with TMac.  Others have TMac going to the Seahawks later. The Raiders are supposedly in love with RB Jeanty to go in Pete Carrol's offense. I see that as a likelihood. The Jets seem to like Fields and bringing in Sanders makes little sense, but it could not be ruled out.  The drama, however, after the Rodgers experiment, is not ideal.  Most NY area experts have the Jets taking Membou OT or Warren TE--always take the top OT over the top TE.  The Panthers are likely to have Walker on their board and should be fielding offers.  According to McShay, a team still needing a QB would be calling the Panthers to get ahead of the Saints.  McShay mentions that the Giants could be in play to move back up to grab Sanders, but I see Indianapolis as a more likely candidate, with Richardson and Daniel Jones as their QBs at the moment.  For the Colts to move up to 14 it would not require a huge investment in draft capital.  The Colts could send Carolina their first (14) and second (45) to Carolina for their first (8) and a fourth (111) and fifth (140). Side Rumor:  According to McShay, the folks at FanDuel give the over and under odds for Sanders being drafted at 7.5 to 8.5.  The Panthers pick 8th.  What does this mean?   First, Jon Snow will have to change his user name and I think Special Juan is required to report his status to us to be on this board.  Secondly, it means the Panthers could sit at #8 and take Walker or move back, where players like Warren, TMac, Mykel Williams, or a top S (Starks/Emmanwori), Golden, etc. would be in play.   In addition, getting pick #45 would land a player like Princely (Edge). (However, Princely was drafted in round 3--Scourton was the selection at pick 51--Princely went pick 77 in the third)
