All that will be remembered is that Hartwig is a Super Bowl winner and Kalil is not. End of story.

I know a lot of folks take that path, but it can be a little simplistic. Martin Gramatica has a Super Bowl ring too. John Kasay doesn't. Which one would you rather have kicking for you?

When I watched line drills in training camp last year, Hartwig regularly looked like he was on roller skates. Kalil wasn't ready when he finally got in that season, and that had me worried for this year.

Seeing how both have turned out since though, there's absolutely no hesitation. I'm glad we kept Kalil over Hartwig.

To be fair, Hartwig suffered a pretty significant injury. The trenches are all about leverage, so any injury is magnified. He did the best he could in Carolina with what he had.
