Who should we draft with the #1 pick?

I say AJ Green. We need offensive playmakers and he is going to be a stud in the NFL.

I agree with you to a point. If Clausen can't hit a wide open David Gettis (or any WR for that matte) how is the situation going to change with a wide open AJ Green? However I do think trading down and grabbing AJ green is the way to go. We need someone to replace Smith in the future. And the fact that no other QB in the draft is 'guaranteed' to be an improvement over Clausen (not a Clausen fan btw). Luck was a guaranteed improvement. IMHO I think Clausen will improve next season, he will have a healthy O-Line, great running game, some good receivers with great potential coming along with him. And if Smith gets traded, we almost certainly have to grab AJ Green.

My bet is that Clausen probably won't be the one throwing?

Here is a tidbit from JR, making me think we are going to try to surround Clausen with as many weapons as possible (as I am sure everyone has read from multiple sources, there are a lot of people in the Panthers organization who are behind Clausen).

http://ttomlinson.blogspot.com/2011/01/my-talk-with-jerry-richardson.html

"He’s planning to change the Panthers’ philosophy. For years the team leaned on a tough defense. But now he says the NFL is so offense-oriented that offensive coordinators and quarterback coaches are nearly as important as head coaches. Richardson said the Panthers will hire a new head coach first, but then go hard at offensive assistants. And no matter the coaches, he says the Panthers are going to open up."

“The NFL has changed, in the last five years, dramatically,” he said. “We would be foolish not to stay in sync with that… We didn’t score enough points. First thing, they (fans) want us to win. But after that, they want us to score points and they want excitement.”

    • Having trouble finding all these articles saying the Raiders withheld information. Here’s the latest from Crosby’s surgeon: ElAttrache told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Wednesday morning that Crosby was "doing very well in the early part of his rehab and recovery from surgery to treat a significant meniscus tear and the related stress injury to the bone and cartilage in his knee. He is certainly on track in his planned program." "We truly respect the work of the Ravens' staff with Maxx regarding the contract physical exam. We also understand the challenge the staff faces when tasked to provide a future risk assessment based on an evaluation early in the recovery process," ElAttrache said. "This is especially challenging when dealing with an elite player like Maxx considering the level of commitment necessary for a team to obtain him. The timing of this assessment is unfortunate because the apparent risk will lessen as his recovery progresses and his return to performance over the next few months becomes clear."     So the Ravens excuse is the future risk assessment based on the physical, not that the Raiders withheld information. They found an excuse to save face publicly. They had the right to cancel the trade for no reason at all, but they’re trying to save face with the most acceptable reasoning they can find. I’ve heard and seen the Ravens getting dragged everywhere for this. You know what would be an easy way to put a stop to that if you’re the Ravens and the Raiders were actually the shady ones withholding information? Just come out and say that you were not given all the medical information. But they aren’t saying that. I guess they’re just taking the bullet for the Raiders just because?    Speculation indeed.
    • Two first round picks for a guy with very questionable knees who will be 29 this summer. Yes it is safe to say the Ravens got cold feet.
    • The salary cap is the reason we got Phillips and Lloyd
