Who should we draft with the #1 pick?

I know Smith said he wanted another dependable receiver, but you will have to show me some links about some of this other stuff he's been saying. If Smith truly lost a step, why are teams still putting safeties over to his side? Why are teams still double covering him? Look at his 2008 and 2009 seasons and tell me how many yards he had per catch. He still has speed, along with the ability to break tough tackles.

"Put me in the slot!" --Steve Smith

I also noticed he said he hasn't lost a step.:D I do agree that Steve Smith is getting older, but he's still fiesty. As for taking Green, I think Alshon Jeffery will be much better for us next year, if we don't get the chance to draft Luck. In the meantime, we need to bolster our secondary and pick Peterson.

He did say it in an article I read once, but I am not sure where and I could have misread it and believed it. If I had 11 Steve Smiths I would win every game. His fire and competitive spirit is his biggest strength and, at times, his worst enemy. He has a Napolean complex, and that drives him. I pity people around him when he no longer has a physical outlet to vent/express himself, because he might explode. SS is the best panther ever because he brings it every time he is on the field. Watch him at OTAs in June--I watched him crawl Dwayne Jarrett for not lining up correctly. He had to be restrained!

heh not sold on Cam he had only played one year. He may be worth it but that just adds to his risk, that is a fact.

I think Cam has the physical tools to be a drop back, pass first, QB. But I am not sure he has the work ethic to learn the complex offenses and read defenses--that takes a high football IQ, dedication in the film room and extra time after practice with WRs. You really need to be humble coming out of college, ready to start paying your dues. Cam gives the opposite impression. I get the idea that he has never had to work for anything and that his God-given abilities carried him. Clausen is the same way, a sense of entitlement followed him through ND, but his college experience and his familiarity with a pro set offense should have made it easier to carry over.

I am torn between Green and Peterson. And then I ask, "Are we being foolish to leave Bowers sitting there by drafting need with the first pick.

Switching gears--I wonder if JClausen has hit rock bottom and will come in next year with a chip on his shoulder? All the Luck talk must have been hell on him. Maybe he will man up and come in with a swagger. That would be a great first step.

After much debate (with myself) I currently believe the choice is AJ Green.

Fairley would be a huge reach and truthfully isn't anywhere near as good as previous #1 DT Suh imo.

Bowers is probably good enough but with Hardy, CJ, Brown and Brayton; DE isn't a need at all.

Cam is an athletic freak with outstanding size, speed and arm strength but hes a project and 2 QBs were drafted last year. For an athletic QB we already got AE. If Moore/Clausen can't get anything going this year (with a good QB coach JR promises) then Barkley, Luck, etc. will be available next year and Tyrod Taylor will be available 3rd/4th round this year.

Peterson has outstanding speed, an outstanding return man and a very good CB but not a shutdown CB (yet). He could certainly replace Marshall imo and would be my second choice for #1.

Green is as close to a can't miss talent as there is in the draft. With Green, Gettis, LeFell, Smitty and AE (when he actually gets a chance) would be a great WR corp imo. JR wants more passing so.....

Mostly this is your opinion, you realizes this right? There are list a mile long with QBs with high morals and great IQs that never translated.

Im not saying Newton is not a risk, he is a big one but with the other choices we are given he has the biggest upside.

I think we are looking at the Detroit Lions model guys drafting a franchise WR followed by an 0-16 season the drafting a franchise QB. IDK if you guys have seen we have the hardest schedule in the NFL in 2011 which probably means we get the first pick and if their is a lockout we will for sure have it! As sick as I am of Luck i think they get him next year! Especially if teams like the cards and skins take first round QB's in 2011! Luck may fall in our laps even if we pick 3rd in 2012 and believe me we will atleast be picking that high in 2012. I am basing all of this on the fact that we stick with Clausen, if we bring in someone at least as good as Matt Flynn the we have a chance at winning 5 games which would play us out of Luck in 2012!

What if Luck decides he will not play for anyone but JH. SF will be right up there with us and we could get screw again. I dont think we need to chase the waterfall that is Luck. Lots of things could change now that JH is gone from Standford. We need to move on and take the most logical choice.

The niners will be 2nd in the west next year! prob 6-10 or 7-9! Rams prob get to 9-7 or 10-6 next years! We win maybe maybe 3 games I want to move on as much as you do my man, but we want escape this unless Clausen pans out or we bring in a vet to atleast win us 5 games or if they draft a QB which doesn't seem like an option at this point unless you take one in the latter rounds like Ricky Stanzi!
