SorthNarolina's Mock Draft 2.0....

SorthNarolina

Recommended Posts

Major needs:

QB

DT x 3

Needs:

CB

WR

OG

OT

TE possibly with a new coach and all.

Free Agents

Resign: C. Johnson, Kalil, Davis, Anderson, Rosario, J. Williams, Jon Beason(extension)

Franchise: D. Williams

Let Go: Moore, Marshall, Hayden, E. Johnson

Bring In:

CB Nnamdi Asomugha

QB Matt Hasselbeck

OG Davin Joseph

TE Kevin Boss

DT Barry Coefield

DE Mark Anderson

TE Randy McMicheal

Trades(Personnel):

Steve Smith + 7th for New England 3rd(#74)

Steve Smith may want out, he didn't play all that great, and he costs 7 million. Trading vets usually only means going to a contender. Somebody said the 1st time that a 2nd that nets a 3rd was too high. So maybe if it is just a 3rd this will be a little easier.

Deangelo Williams + Dan Connor + our 3rd for Denver's 2nd rounder(#46) and their 3rd rounder (#67)

Williams is one of the most talented yet expendable players on the roster, with Skipper and Fox in Denver this trade makes a lot of sense. They are also in need of a MLB. Again with Fox in Denver moving Connor makes sense. This trade makes the assumption that Connor will not be happy as a backup and his hip injury is fine(big assumption i know).

So after Free Agency

Major needs:

DT x 2

Needs:

QB

WR

RB

MLB

Trades(draft):

It's going to get a little crazy...

Carolina 1st for Arizona 1st & 2nd

This is assuming a QB outshines the rest. #5 to #1 isn't a massive jump. Arizona trades up for a QB.

Arizona 1st for Tampa Bay 1st and 2nd.

Tampa Bay has a horrible pass rush. I think they would trade up this far to get an elite DE like Quinn or Bowers.

Also if we sign Asomugha we need to save money by trading down. It's not the "build through the draft method in terms of signing a big name FA over a draft pick. But trading down and trading players gives us 6 picks in the 1st 3 rounds instead of 2.

The Draft:

Tampa Bay 1st: Stephen Paea DT - need to add to the interior. Again he's no Nick Fairley but he's still a beast.

Arizona 2nd: Rahim Moore FS - good depth and he pushes Godfrey to be more consistent.

Denver(from Miami) 2nd: Torrey Smith WR/KR - he's no A.J. Green but he replaces the explosive component Steve Smith brought to the defense.

Tampa Bay 2nd: Bruce Carter OLB - honestly depth at linebacker isn't really that great especially with Connor gone in this scenario.

Denver 3rd: Jerrell Powe NT - a good boulder to use for the possible 3-4 packages.

New England 3rd: Darius Mooris OT/G - O-line depth a great need

Our 3rd Comp : Curtis Brown CB - Brees, Ryan, and Freeman mean you can never have enough depth.

Carolina 4th: Jarvis Jenkins DT - solid run stopper as a 3 tech.

Depth wherever you please for the rest... :D

Yeah thats going to happen. When have we ever been that active in the offseason. Good lord.

I would love to trade down that much in the draft however someone like Newton or Locker could be there and when you start looking at the 10-15 picks there upside becomes more tempting. #1 no #10 eh maybe.

If we traded with TB and they draft a top 5 prospect, I will be pissed off. That guy is going to be blowing clausen up for 10 years, and it would be our own fault. I would fire Hurney on the spot if he does something that bone headed. Find someone else to trade wit who you only play once every few years and maybe only see in the SB. C'mon man.

Hurney traded down and missed out on Darrell Revis, the 2nd best CB in the game. But he drafted the 2nd best MLB in the game and the 2nd best C in the game.

His 1st round record is phenomenal. He's hit every time. I'd rather trade down so he can do that build through the draft buisness.

Thats not what I am debating, Im debating giving a top 5 selection to a division rival. The trade down with the Jets was fine IMHO. Revis was a good selection for them and after Willis we were super high on Beason and knew he would be there... I also liked trading back into the first to get Otah as well. Like I said my main concern was trading with TB.

I totally agree with you. That is why people couldnt understand the Mcnabb trade. You never want to help a team you play twice a year get better.

Exactly. So trade with someone else :). If there is a rookie CBA, I know there will be more teams willing to wheel and deal. We would have more oppertunity to take the best deal.

I don't mind critiques really I do these more for fun and discussion. It's usually something I'd be cool with in real life but it's more a fun way to look at prospects and stuff.

sure :)

first I am worried about trading away Dan Connor right now. I'm not certain how he'd fit in Rivera/McDermott's scheme, but I worry that TD's injuries could be a recurring theme and I think we should keep Connor this season, personally. While I know you draft another guy, I am still a little hesitant to let Connor go this year.

second, I just can't see us getting Hasselbeck without spending a fortune on him. He wants to stay in Seattle, Seattle wants him to stay in Seattle, we'd have to spend a ton to get him. :(

I have other questions about the FAs mostly, though I like the quality of picks you make with your draft choices, I'd be stunned if we actually made those trades.

overall I like the approach you are going for, but I do think it's unlikely we get all those free agents and make all those trades.

Still a neat setup and while your scenarios are unlikely, at least you aren't trading Steve Smith for a first rounder. :D
