Matt Moore: I would love to stay in Carolina

Doesn't mean he can't suffer from that Mongolian Cluster of a season we had.

Wouldn't be fair to judge DeAngelo Williams by last year, would it?

It would be if, having just been named the starter going into the season, he started fumbling all over, making bad decisions and not playing at the same level he did as a reserve.

Edit: I'd MUCH rather have a Vet/Moore/Clausen lineup than Vet/Clausen/Pike

I just don't think Moore is anything more than a backup.

One game is still a little too early to judge this. Also, I think the context of that question has become like a folk tale now and changed every time it's retold. I think it's more coincidence than anything.

Remember, up until last year, the "book on Moore" was that he wasn't good in practice and camp and that's why he never got his shot. How many books does this guy have written about him? Is he the new Harry Potter? That book got proved false, is your book false as well?

Well, all we can go with is the sampling of data he's provided. He looked good at the end of 2009 playing with nothing to lose, looked good in mini-camp, training camp, etc and then opening day came and he laid an egg.

i know that and have made that argument myself but the CBA means this offseason is different than others. it could be an extended time before any free agents sign. in the meantime coaches around the league are going to keep young players on their rosters and go from there. when the CBA is done there will be a scramble for free agents and the panthers will surely be looking for one with more of a track record than moore. they get that guy and then it's time to find a 4th quarterback for training camp and by that point it will likely be "matt who?"

fair enough

So, the whole philosophy is take a chance on a guy who might be average versus take a guy who we know is average.

Why?

Sign a Hasselbeck.

Know what your getting. And go with it.

Way better than *oh, gee I hope this works!!*

show me a guy that is as good as hasselbeck and I will say sign his as yesterday. there isnt anybody in that caliber that would be available. and no I dont want to freaking trade for Orton. We need as many picks as possible.

Like I said, see Gus Ferotte's career with the Skins. Talented guy who played well in relief but couldn't handle the pressure of being the starter.

He's played with playoffs on the line for two different years in his career and went 6-2. He played one game on opening day and went 0-1.

What do you think is the better sample size?

We don't know if Moore is average. He's had 2 bad games his whole career. The rest have been solid to great performances. The jury is still out on him. If I had my choice I'd bring back Moore and sign Hasselbeck. But the Seahawks will probably have something to say about that.

And Hasselbeck who said he'd only play for a winner or a team close to winning.

Translation, he's not coming to Carolina.

i was hoping for hasselbeck but he is at the end of his career and wants to play for a winner. He is a respectable QB and with how there are not many decent QBs out there he is the #1 candidate for any team looking for an experienced player. And yes I would pick him over Mcnabb any day of the week. So lets give up on Hassel and focus on someone else.

They'll be plenty enough Hasselbeck-caliber QB's in this year's FA class.

All we need is one.

    • Here are more fun facts about Peyton Manning's rookie season: Peyton ranked 3rd in total passing yards, 5th in passing touchdowns, 4th in 1st-down completions, 11th in TD%, and 8th in completions that were 20 yards or more.  Now let's look at how Bryce compared to his peers: 20th in total passing yards, 28th in passing TDs, 21st in 1st-down completions, 31st in TD%, and 27th in completions that were 20 yards or more.  To put it mildly, Peyton showed plenty of flashes as a franchise quarterback. Bryce? Not so much, almost none at all, as a matter of fact. Oh, and Peyton is legit 6'4", literally head and shoulders above Bryce. I sometimes wonder if Bryce defenders are sentient at all.
