We must figure out a way to trade down

I know JR said it would not happen but that was before Luck decided to stay in college.

With all our needs and the price tag of the 1st round pick it makes alot of sense. The question is how can we pull it off?

I feel the more picks in rounds 1 through 3 the better off we will be as a team. When you think about it the number 1 pick is reserved for a franchise qb which I do not see in this draft.

So if I understand this correctly if we have a CBA in place we could package a trade using a FA but without one its a matter of giving up picks. What does everyone think we could get to trade down?Would it be possible to get a low number 1 and low number 2?

First of all, I don't think it's possible. But let's assume that someone actually wants to trade up...we'd get a lot more than a low first and a low second.

No point trading down. No team is gonna give up much to move up most likely w/ no superstud at #1. No point giving away the pick for what ultimately will be little.

what I fear is Hurney trading our future #1 again

Well that my point if we give up enough could we entice someone trade up or is it a mute point and accept our 50 million dollar man.

anything could happen between now and then.......ANYTHING. End of story. There have already been 500 threads about this already. Just read back thru some of them and you'll get all the information you need......... along with everyone's opinion.

Honestly I don't always have a problem trading a number 1, if you get a number 1 back. I would be totally fine with say the following example.

We take Fairley with the Number 1 pick, then say if Newton were to slide to about 15 or so, I would try and trade back into the first round by trading next years number 1.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
