Official re-sign Dwill thread

Lumps

The FO needs to resign this badass. He is in the prime of his career with low mileage and a seemingly desire to want to stay paired up with Jstew, now this is something special. As an organization, business wise and fan wise it is imperative to keep that going on. I hope JR realizes this. Especially with Smitty getting old this team needs to keep it's few stars.

Dwill can catch, run and is a perfect all-round back. Don't give me crap about needing something from a tag and trade like more picks or players, we have plenty of trading ammo in the RBs, LBs and elsewhere but I think it is essential to keep double trouble at least for another 4 years. They are young, they are competitive. Dwill is a high character guy who has the skills to back it up and it would be stupid to let him get away.

I say sign him and use the tag somewhere else if need be. No one can say he wouldn't be worth his money. JR, put that PSL money to good use! Pay him!

If he wants a reasonible contract why not sign him.WE are in a league that requires 2 or 3 rbs.I may be wrong but I see teams leaning torwards multiple rbs versus one super star.Defenses have learned how to slow down the running game if they want to.The stock of rbs in general is declining in my opinion. As Riveria noted if they give you the pass you have to be able to pass and the same is true for running the ball.Fox ball is a dying stadegy.

We will not be spending a lot of money to keep Deangelo Williams when we have Stewart and Goodson. I like the guy as much as anyone but its just not going to happen...it wouldn't be smart financially. Especially considering he probably has 4 good years left and we are rebuilding.

I agree that we want spend a fortune but I have no reason to believe a deal will not be worked out.Goodson is not an every down back and we need 2 backs if not 3.I would like to see us stay with what we have a rb.No need to screw that up too.

Contracts and paying players are where the rubber meets the road in the NFL when it comes to ownership and management philosophies.

Case #1: Peyton Manning is about to become the highest paid player in the history of the NFL as he and the Colts are talking right now. CBA be damned, the Colts are wanting to make this happen regardless of what the new salary cap may look like.

Case #2: Jerry Richardson refuses to negotiate, sign or otherwise deal with his team until a new CBA is in place. He is more than willing to watch one UFA after another decide they'll play elsewhere rather than pay the man for what he can bring to the table.

    • This is a toughie because I wonder what a guy like Canales thinks about redemption stories for addiction issues. Also, I think this is a case of 1 player getting caught, and not being naive enough to think this isn't more common in college than we think. I'd toss a 3rd rounder out there. 2026 is essentially a redshirt season regardless, so he's not taking over for any NFL QB next year. Best case, he's ready to go in 2027 if we pass on Bryce's extension. Worst case, he's our future backup QB2. Kid has the tools to be an NFL QB. I do think we could somehow land a '26 3rd round pick back in a trade. Our past years' third rounders are: Brazzell Princely Wallace DJ Johnson Matt Corral All this to say, I could see a team like the Jets going w/ a 2nd. They have three FRPs next year.
    • Alright man! We're here for it! Just glad you're keeping the doors open!
    • I think we've seen improvement in Bryce's performance. It still isn't up to world beater status, but in Canales defense, he can say that the limitations of the player were hit. I think he survives that even if Bryce doesn't. Still, I think it's a 50/50 shot for Bryce to make it. QB is one of the toughest jobs to do in the sports world, if not the most, so the failure rate is really high, no matter the pedigree. Heck, Archie Manning gets a lot of credit as a great QB but anyone who saw his career in motion knows he wasn't really that good and he was surrounded by bottom of the bowl players. He did get it figured out with his sons, though. That grandson... maybe.
