Patrick Peterson Meeting With Panthers

The Saltman

Recommended Posts

No to any DB, WR etc with the #1 pick, none are worth it

that's not true

you're telling me if given the opportunity to draft Revis, Asomugha, Polamalu, Reed, etc #1 overall you wouldn't because they're DB's?

you take the best player available, period. Peterson might be that guy.

with the style of defense we are planning on changing to a CB like PP would be Ideal. I dont think there is a clear cut person that "should" be the #1 pick.

Pretty much. They just have to meet all the ones they have an interest in. Can't stop scouting the players simply because they aren't #1 material in a draft that has no true #1 on the basis of "Wishing someone may want to trade up".

Trade down and that is fine with me but there is no way in hell I'm ok with taking Peterson #1 overall. IMO the only pick that should be #1 is Fairley or Bowers at that spot to a team that trades up to get them...

It's just due diligence... And Peterson deserves the consideration with the #1 pick. Wouldn't be a surprise if we interviewed/met with somewhere between the top 10-15 guys.

    • This is a toughie because I wonder what a guy like Canales thinks about redemption stories for addiction issues. Also, I think this is a case of 1 player getting caught, and not being naive enough to think this isn't more common in college than we think. I'd toss a 3rd rounder out there. 2026 is essentially a redshirt season regardless, so he's not taking over for any NFL QB next year. Best case, he's ready to go in 2027 if we pass on Bryce's extension. Worst case, he's our future backup QB2. Kid has the tools to be an NFL QB. I do think we could somehow land a '26 3rd round pick back in a trade. Our past years' third rounders are: Brazzell Princely Wallace DJ Johnson Matt Corral All this to say, I could see a team like the Jets going w/ a 2nd. They have three FRPs next year.
    • Alright man! We're here for it! Just glad you're keeping the doors open!
    • I think we've seen improvement in Bryce's performance. It still isn't up to world beater status, but in Canales defense, he can say that the limitations of the player were hit. I think he survives that even if Bryce doesn't. Still, I think it's a 50/50 shot for Bryce to make it. QB is one of the toughest jobs to do in the sports world, if not the most, so the failure rate is really high, no matter the pedigree. Heck, Archie Manning gets a lot of credit as a great QB but anyone who saw his career in motion knows he wasn't really that good and he was surrounded by bottom of the bowl players. He did get it figured out with his sons, though. That grandson... maybe.
