I'm saying of course it's scripted to prop him up. If they are confident that his skills are NFL ready no matter the circumstance, they will wait until the combine or pro days when Scouts have control.

Or if they are confident they are trying to get that out there ahead of the game without having to compete for coverage with hundreds of other kids at several different positions that the media and the scouts will ave to look at during the combine and pro day.

What I was told (from some people with ties to Auburn football) was that this was going to be very similar to what you would see at the combine or at a pro day.

I'm willing to bet a large amount of money that no matter what Cam Newton does on Feb. 10 you will have a bad grade on the day, because your mind has already been made up. You should save yourself the trip. If he makes all they throws you will claim it was scripted. If he struggles you will say I told you so. You have already outlined exactly what you are going to say.

Plus you just decided to ignore the fact that even if the scouts don't run this workout there will be private workouts with the individual teams as there are every single year. Even though Bradford was pretty much a lock to be number one last year, and even though he threw at pro day, the rams said they wouldn't commit to drafting him until he had a private work out with their own scouts. If a team is serious about drafting Newton early in the draft he will likely go in for an interview and a workout.

So the fact the scouts aren't running it (which they really don't at pro day or the combine either, per se) they will have a chance to do their own interviews and evaluations.

I don't have to make a trip I live in SD and I'm going because I'm very interested in seeing his progress. My mind isn't made up about his skills but it is made up that this is not a good idea

You may be right about it not being a good idea. I am going to wait to see how he does and how the media portrays it before I make my decision whether it is a good idea or not.

I admit it is a gamble. At first I thought it was for scouts and media but the fact it is media only is a little weird I will concede that.

Hey TRD are you going to try to do live updates while you are there or are you going to watch and then tell us what you saw later that day??

Also did you have Nevada outright or did you take the points bc if you had Nevada outright; A) you are a genius and B) how were your nerves the last 2 minutes of that game?? I would have ripped my hair out (what's left of it)!!

I already said I'm not posting my responses from the workout because no one will take them serious as many of you have already made up your mind about my opinion. Some people that I talk with on here will get my opinions if they so desire but it will not be posted anywhere. I don't have a twitter and my FB is closed down and I'm not really down with posting from my phone so they will not be live. I will make notes and go from memory.

Also, I had Nevada straight up. To be honest I had a really long night before that game and fell asleep during the game and only woke up for the last 4 minutes. I was still in a haze during the end of the game but didn't comprehend anything.

That game just reaffirmed to me that kickers should be out of football, there is no place for a two shoes wearing sissy to decide a game fought by grown men for 2 hours.

The best bet I made was when I dropped a G on the Panthers straight up over the Vikings and I think we were around +330 so that was nice.

Once again, the only way this workout is a mistake, is if Cam proves his coach to be a liar. If he looks good, those butt hurt scouts will get over it real quick.

This is where we disagree. Most people are expecting him to come and nail the workout, look almost perfect. The scouts likely won't get too high off of this and will wait to make a decision later, unless he completely flops.

For him it's a lose/tie situation.

TRD,

I will take your responses seriously and would love to hear what you have to say about it. I haven't been challenging you because I feel opinion isn't valid I just feel that you may have already made up your own mind and nothing he does will change that. I just am trying to get you to be a little more open minded with Cam because i feel it is a real possibility that he becomes the top pick in the draft (especially if there is no CBA). I may be wrong and these workouts are going to be a big barometer on my own opinion on him.

But if you go to the workout with an open mind I would really love to hear your assessment.

Those of you that think Cam Newton is an idiot for having his "media only" workout need to read this...http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/Cameron-Newton-Heisman-Trophy-winner-NFL-draft-prospects-as-quarterback-011311

All of the other top senior quarterbacks will participate in the Senior Bowl or East-West Shrine Game later this month. Current NFL coaches run the Senior Bowl (this year’s group is made up of coaches from the Cincinnati Bengals and Buffalo Bills), so Newton won’t get that head-start opportunity which the top senior QBs such as Jake Locker and Andy Dalton will receive to get their feet wet in pro-style offenses. And the East-West game is generally run by ex-NFL head coaches, who are either retired or who have been out of the game for a bit.

When you realize that all of these other QB's are already being evaluated in person and in game conditions, you can understand why Newton would feel that he needs to get his name out there.

Every guy who comes out early faces that same issue. Most of them compensate by relying on bowl game performances or working out in front of scouts at the combine and pro days.

Newton has a postseason bowl, but his camp has already said he may skip the combine and pro days if they are satisfied with the results of his private workout.

If he feels he's at a disadvantage, the best response is to spend more time performing for scouts, not less.
