winston salem bbq joints

I'm coming down tomorrow to visit a friend in the hospital (Bowman Gray) in Winston-Salem. Looking for a good bbq joint to have dinner. We'll be leaving the hospital in the afternoon and heading back towards Lynchburg, Va. via rt. 40 to rt. 29. If anybody knows of any good places (no chains) along the way I'd love to check them out.

The only one i know of is mr bbq and miss fried chicken .. although i've never had their que the chicken and banana pudding are pretty good.

I forget what road its on but i know its a main road like silas or peters creek parkway.

Short Sugars in Reidsville is pretty good. Hill BBQ is also good it is off 52 near the Winston Salem Airport. Little Richardson is good but I would take the other two over them.

I live near Winston.

There is no hospital called Bowman Gray. I think you mean Baptist, which has a Bowman Gray school of medicine (part of Wake Forest) associated with it. But if you ask someone in Winston how to get to Bowman Gray, they will send you to the racetrack.

As far as BBQ, if you are looking for Lexington style near Baptist, there is a little place on Peters Creek about a mile from the Hospital called Mr Barbecue. Another place you might want to try is relatively new. Its called Bibs and its downtown on fifth street, near the Broad and Fifth intersection. They have a greater variety (Ribs, Chicken etc...) and it is very good. And not to expensive.

your right. bowman gray baptist at wake forest. After the visit we stopped by Little Richards. Loved it, bbq was great, slaw......not so much. Sauce was ok but I like mine alittle sweeter with more ketchup in the mix. But, over all a great place to enjoy bbq. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.
