Carolina Panthers 2011 Schedule

does anyone have any idea of how the 2 extra games would work as far as scheduling?

the way the scheduling works now is great, i'd imagine they'd stick with the same basic structure and just add in a new rule for the 2 extra. just don't know how they'd go about it.

Probably just add another from the NFC East and Another from the NFC West based on comparable records.

They could just make it where we play 6 games in conference and then 3 other complete conferences but that would mean each team in the NFC south would play the exact same teams and there is no adjustment for last year's record.

Lol @ people predicting W's right now. Remember before last season when we looked at Tampa Bay as W's? And we thought for sure the seahawks would be an easy W. Just don't even bother.

On another note, the system for schedule making is insane and needs to change. There is no reason in the world the team with the worst record should go on to play the hardest schedule the next season.

1) We play the easiest schedule in the NFC south which is what matters

2) SoS is not overly correlated with wins given the parity in the league

What's so funny? We are missing a second rounder, so you con only count on maybe 2 draft picks contributing regularly. Also, only plan on another couple STARTERS out of FA. It's no secret that when the CBA is struck, Richardson plans on locking up OUR guys (drafted), so our core will be roughly 90% the same. Considering our team will look pretty much the same with a few new faces, it's not too far of a stretch to give preliminary predictions. I don't think anyone here has their toughts etched in store.

The format of the scheduling is fine. The HUGE flaw with taking strength of schedule at face value is the assumption nothing changes. We all know some teams digress and others get better the following season. It also does not consider the previous year's SOS, a team with a good record may had a cupcake schedule the previous year accounting for their attractive record.

The schedules are set years in advance, and we have the easiest schedule in the division because we get to play the two 4th place teams of the NFC conferences we don't play...Cardinals and redskins.... While the falcons play our same schedule but plays Seattle and Philly.

Also we never know what teams are going to be playing great next year as the way teams plays are never the same as how they did the year before.

18 game schedule will not be implemented until the 2012 season... if ever.

I was initially onboard with a couple more games, but the more I think about it, the less inclined I am to support a longer season. We cannot have the NFL penalizing and fining players in the name of player safety while at the same time telling them to play a couple more games, lengthen the season and increase the chance of injuries. Even if the pre-season was shortened to 2 games and roster sizes were increased and a couple more practice squad roster spots were allowed, I'm not sure it'll fly.

Let's be honest, it's a sheer greed move by the owners. Why dilute an already unbelievably popular product?

You can discuss next years outlook all you want, that's fine. But to begin to pretend any of us have any idea how we'll do, especially considering coming off of our 2-14 performance, our new coaching situation, the fact we don't know who will or won't still be here, which teams will fall and which will rise next season, it becomes a futile and laughable attempt predicting next season W's before this one is even entirely over.

I guess I'm still sour after last seasons predictions being mostly positive. I'm not saying we won't do better, I'm just keeping the bar low so I'm pleasantly surprised when we do.

My guess would be we would 2 more conference opponents.

Right now you play two games against the teams in the conference division you don't play who finished in the same spot as you. Example next year we play the NFC North, and since we finished 4th in our division we play the 4th place team in the NFC East and NFC West.

My guess is if they add two games that would be extended to the #3 teams in each of those divisions also. So teams that finished #1 & #2 in their divisions would play the teams that finished #1, and #2 the other divisions they don't play. Same with #3 and #4.

So next year we would play the NFC North and the teams who finished #3 & #4 in the NFC East and NFC West.

Which would mean SF and Dallas. 2 more tough games (I expect both will bounce back, but I could be wrong).

    • Even if he beats the odds, returns midseason  and plays like he did last year it won’t warrant a big contract extension.
    • It’ll be interesting to see how the board falls I completely agree with you on TE for us The safety from Oregon would be the cherry on top for Evero’s defense/scheme.  If a OL’men is there that you love it would be very hard to pass up. This fan base seems to just see Walker as a stop gap but I wouldn’t be so sure. He’s the same age as Ekwonu. He’s had a much more impressive career arc/progression than Icky has. He’s the better pass protector. As far as I see it if Walker has a good year I’d bring him back over Icky. Ekwonu isn’t some elite franchise LT. Playing next to Lewis is going to be great for Walker much like it has been for Icky. We definitely need to get younger/cheaper on the OL though so for this reason alone it’s still top of my list come round 1 if board falls this way  Could also use another corner with Mike Jackson’s deal up after this season and needing a nickel but Corey Thornton looked really good in that role in the limited time we got to see him. However he’s coming off an achillies injury and you never know with those.  Then as mentioned above we do still have a need at WR. As far as “weapons” go it’s kind of a 2 man show with Tmac and Coker and neither is a burner. If Jordan Tyson is there at 19 and we can have a young WR group locked up for cheap that’s a huge advantage cap wise  And don’t forget linebacker. That clip in Devin’s Lloyd blueprint they used from Evero saying they need more intelligence there could’ve been left out for Wallace’s sake but it’s true. Wallace is lost in coverage. Pair a smart linebacker with Lloyd and that’s a group with Wallace and Cherelus being depth
