If Teddy Bruschi is right, this won't ever get done

Listen to what he says about upshaw telling the players to never give any of what they have back. Well that is not negotiating and its going to lead to a 'last best offer' put on the table by owners making the players strike.

According to this article the owners proposal has the players making a little over 40%. Uh that's not happening either.

I would like some more info on total revenue, all revenue etc because I want a better understanding why the owners said no to this latest union proposal. If it is actually a good thing for both parties then the NFLPA is going to swing the fan sympathy back to their side.

Apparently, in the latest negotiations, the players said they want a 50-50 split, and the owners got up and walked out on them.

Mort reports that the NFLPA proposed a split of roughly 50-50 between players and owners, and that the owners walked away from the table in response.

Apparently, the meeting — which lasted far less than the expected nine hours — got off to a bad start when the NFL’s negotiating team supposedly interpreted the players’ proposal of 49-to-51 cents on the dollar as being the cut of “total football revenue,” not “all revenue.”

Ok that helps. So essentially the NFLPA offered up a proposal that gave no consession at all. fug them.

I also understand why the Owners walked out, they are not playing around. They do not have the time nor the inclination to sit here and keep having the NFLPA throw out proposals that keep giving them the same amount of football or overall revenue.

Well Teddy B, Gene upshaw was an assclown as is Smith. It doesn't matter what he told you, ALL unions at some point give something back esp in these economic conditions. So either the NFLPA conceeds or they go hungry. That is all there is to it.

The article I read stated that, as with most negotiations, one side offers up a starting point and they negotiate from there... So, for the owners to get up and walk out on a 50/50 proposal shows what jackasses they are.

Again, they aren't even opening the books to the players to justify their "losses." Which suggests, there are no losses.

You can't have a strike when you aren't under contract. It's a reverse of a strike.

Everything Ive heard from third party perspective says that the union has everything there is about the books ands the "opening the books" thing is bs.

ESPN, although I know not always reliable, just said the other night that the owners HAVEN'T and refuse to open the books. I doubt they are gonna do a whole piece on the CBA and put that out there if it's false. They aren't gonna bite the hand that feeds them unless it's true IMO.

fug the owners. Greedy little bastards. Open up the books, show us how you're losing this money with record deals and ratings. CBA was in place and the players didn't walk away from it. This is not a strike, it's a lockout. Stop blaming players union for something that they haven't started.

Yeah, I can't seem to find that info now. Maybe I dreamt it

The players are overpaid EMPLOYEES. What point are you player lovers going to get, NO employees should be getting the % of operating revenue they are getting?

They aren't opening the books because legally they dont have to. American Airlines didn't have to open books to the TWU when they made them take cuts or else. No company has to and the Courts nor Congress will make the NFL.

There will be a contract, this has been in the news. The owners can make a 'Best/ Last' Offer and put it on the table. The Agreenent from the employer is right there. Either the employees take it or they have to strike.

The NFLPA has screwed around in court enough, not been at the table enough and now are bull shitting around so much the NFL can prove easilly the NFLPA has not offered to NEGOTIATE in good faith. When that happens YES they can put it on the table and force the NFLPA to strike.

Smith is such a tard he has overlooked this the entire time. The owners arn't going to let the players have the same % of money. When the NFLPA wakes up to this fact and gets back to the table without Bull poo offers trying to make the same % of money, then progress will be made and quickly.

But this isn't, and shouldn't be viewed as, a normal employee/company relationship.

NFL players are unique in that they're rare. Not just anyone can come off the street and play at the same level as these guys.

Your analogy of a chef in a restaurant isn't really the same, seeing as if the chef did demand all sorts of money, the boss could fire him/her, and go out and find another fairly quickly.

They aren't steelworkers or welders, they are entertainers and athletes. They deserve a bigger part of that pie than what you're suggesting. The owners are only facilitators, they aren't the reason for the success of the league/game.

    • Technically speaking, Fields has been a better QB than Bryce Young in the NFL.  I mean it’s bottom rung comparing by BY isn’t better.  Thats what I don’t get about the talk this week.  We don’t have a QB edge
    • Might be different against a team with no legitimate pass catching options outside of their rookie TE though.  Their #1 WR tomorrow has 8 catches this season, next best WR receptions number this year is 4. If we can't defend that while Horn travels with their TE, then we have some serious problems.   Maybe we don't end up doing that in the end, but it's probably how I'd be scheming up the defense tomorrow when they have only 1 non RB pass catching option.
    • I fought sleep to stay awake just to watch that fumble on the goal line as we were going in for the go ahead score and said fug it, I'm going to bed. I've seen this movie before. I know how this ends. This bullshit of having California teams in conference with east coast teams is trash. That game probably didn't end until 2:30AM. Hell, it was 2AM at the time of the fumble and there was still 3+ minutes to play. In conference games being played into the 2AM hour for local audiences is terrible for the game. And the worst rule in football really does need fixed. Fumbling through the endzone or a fumble recovers by the D in the end zone should not result in a touch back and the ball on the 20. Fumbling through the endzone should not be a turnover. Fumbling out of bounds isn't a turnover anywhere else on the field. That should be the offense's ball on the one yard line. If the D recovers it in the endzone it should be the D's ball on the one yard line. Everyone knows this and everyone talks about it so just fix it already. If Cal was getting the ball at the goal line instead of out to the 20 I would've kept watching. That's a completely different scenario than the ball at the 20.
