Cam Newton Workout Phenomenal

UM I have never even said anything about Cam. Just goes to show you dont read and make assumptions.

You're attacking me because I don't share your opinion on the importance of Cam's private workout that has been choreographed for weeks now (or any other prospects workout for that matter). You didn't have to say anything about him....

there were some crazy people that thought Eli was better than his brother, I thought. Never knew there was any real doubt that Eli would go #1 overall, even though he made it clear he didn't want to go to SD.

I don't doubt there were people who said that but I don't think that was the general consensus.

Again it became pretty clear that he would go number one overall after his workouts and his interview. Before that there was some speculation that he might but it wasn't a foregone conclusion until after his workouts and interviews.

This has been an entertaining thread so far. Here's what I've learned;

1. Blacks are still sensitive towards racial stuff and whites are tired of dealing with it. (I have no idea of who's white or black on this board but I'm assuming here).

2. I don't understand why race is such a big issue here. I can only assume that the sensitivity from blacks here is that they assume that white folks only want whites at the QB position.

I'd like to address this second point for a moment. This is absolutely not true.

I think that the issue here is that no black running QB has won the SB (recently - forget about Redskins or whatever). Whoever wins gets the most adoration. NFL is like 80% black anyways and it's my favorite sport to watch. I wear Beason's jersey. So how can I be racist or anyone else? Silly stuff and we should drop it.

Bottom line is I'm actually pulling for us to pick Cam. It's a HUGE gamble. He could be the next J. Russell or he could be the better version of Freeman from TB. It could go either way. But the upside is so damn big.

Sure DTs can be bought from FA and drafted later but a franchise QB? Only way to win - especially in our conference when everyone else has theirs.

veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery well said.

UGH... You missed my point entirely. You assumed I was referring to that and in fact it had nothing to do with Newton and it had all to do with the draft process.

Yes I seem to remember countless SC debates about how Eli was going to be better then Peyton as well.....

Well ESPN had Eli ranked 5th prospect overall and 2nd best QB in the draft.

Rivers was 14th overall ranked player and 3rd ranked QB.

Ben Roethlisberger was ranked 4th overall player and #1 QB in that class (that shocked me a little. Didn't think anyone had him rated that high.)

They are the only one I can find that keeps their rankings on file after the draft. I guess we are both kind of wrong :)

Like I said, or any other prospect's workout for that matter.....

You sure that's not three years later this is what we've got after the fact rankings. Because every single ranking I've looked at has Manning 1 and Rivers and Big Ben are interchangeable with one falling in the 4-5 range and the other anywhere from 11-20.....

That surprises me because I remember people had a lot of reservations about Ben because his offense didn't translate to the NFL, he had foot work issues because he was never under center, and he played in a weak conference.

Positive unless you would consider JP Losman #4 QB a better pro three years later than Matt Schaub #5 QB.

Meh strange' date=' the draft stock pages that I'm looking at and mock drafts I'm looking at have Eli as the number 1 pick almost unanimously.....[/quote']

Might be because San Diego pretty much said that was there intention after his interviews. Not sure because I remember it becoming pretty clear as well that Eli was number 1

    • Exactly He's played two seasons and started 28 games. He's well beyond the point of being able to point to 2 or 3 games and being able to say, "THAT is the QB he is and will be in the future" Of course he can get there, but anyone trying to use just those couple of games to rank his place amongst the games QB's today and their full career's worth of playing at that level, is just asinine. Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, Burrow, Hurts, Herbert, Daniels, Stafford, Goff, Geno, Purdy, Baker, Love, Dak, Tua, Kyler, Lawrence That's 17 QB's right there that have played better over their careers than Bryce has played at his best.  And I'm not saying they're all studs or guys I'd want to be our QB moving forward, Tua for example I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole, but his body of work is a million times better than Bryce's has been. It's also not including any of the other QB's drafted in 2023/2024 other than Daniels. So again, say you believe in Bryce, say you think he's going to prove he can and should be our QB of the future, that's all fair and totally fine. But nobody can say he's been an above average QB in his career thus far, it's just an asinine notion.
    • I'd think we could get one of those from Dallas for... whatever.
