The lottery hurts genuinely bad teams.

If they wanted actual fairness they would make the lotto only the able to move up or down 5 picks.....

They claim its not to reward tanking but in reality the lotto in NHL and NBA really just take away the illusion of pariety.

what if i told you the mavs just traded a top 3 player in the nba to the lakers for pennies on the dollar?

Oh I'm aware.

The lotto is a joke both the NBA and NHL lottos every year there is a true generational talent the lotto miraculously hands them to a huge market team.....

NHL New York climbs from 14 to 1

NBA Dallas from 15 to 1

That’s kind of the point though. OKC was lucky enough to get the #2 pick for KD instead of the #1 pick for Oden and they did a fantastic job building around him. And what happens? He leaves to ring chase in larger markets and they have nothing to show for it. They are definitely a better drafting team than the Hornets, but it still comes down to the only shot we have is lucking into a generational player in the draft and winning before they leave, and that chance is diminished by the rigged lottery system.

Ehhhh you do know the Hornets drafted Shai and traded him to OKC right?

Yes and I said they clearly draft better than us in the exact post you quoted. And yet with all their success drafting no chip and the best player they ever had left them. Again, it’s hard enough without the lottery also being rigged.

Actually, we traded him to the Clippers.

The Clippers traded him to OKC for Paul George, the following year.

You can only move up 10 spots max in the NHL draft.

TOTAL JOKE.

If you were on the fence about leaving the NBA as a fan, you now have many reasons  including this most recent fraud BS.

WWE is 10 steps above the NBA and its for choreographed soap opera BS.

I hope the whole league folds.

I told everyone since the season was over, prepare for disappointment.  Our franchise is cursed.  How the Cavs get the #1 pick 3 years in a row after LeBron left?  How did we have a historically bad season, clearly the worst team in the league, but New Orleans, just recently purchased by Benson after being owned by the league at the time and desperately searching for a star, ends up with the #1 pick, gets AD and we get effin MKG?  How do the Spurs carry on one of the most successful franchises in the league for almost two decades straight, then when they suddenly  age out of their dynasty window and struggle for the first time in decades, they just coincidentally back their way into the #1 pick and generational talent in Wemby?  All that fuss about the Mavs trading away Luka, and did so admittedly without fielding any other offers from other teams - just one from the Lakers and they accept it?  So the Lakers get to team one of the biggest stars in the league with LeBron for the final years of his career and the league does the Mavs a solid and gives them the #1 pick for scratching their back.  The Mavs had one mediocre year and the league gives them this pick?  We have sucked for so long, so consistently and haven’t gotten it one fuging time in the entire history of the franchise outside of Larry Johnson?  And especially since getting a franchise back in Charlotte, we have to be the worst team in the league during that stretch…  and the league continues to treat us like their whipping boy.

I watched the least amount of sports ever in my life this past year, and poo like this is a huge reason why.  You can’t tell me this isn’t rigged.  They manufacture the drama.  All the poo I listed above shows these statistical impossibilities miraculously happen regularly, and they happen coincidentally with the most beneficial outcome for the NBA’s preferred storylines.  fuging bullshit.  Idk how anyone can watch this poo and not laugh at how fuging brazen the league is with rigging this poo.  It is unreal…

and again, going back to the Donaghy scandal.  I was somewhere around 18 when I bet a friend $25 on that SAC/LA series on Sac.  Those were my guys.  Even with Kobe and Shaq, I knew they couldn’t fug with Vlade, CWebb, Bobby, Peja, etc.  and I was right.  So the NBA stepped in and handed LA the series in a platter with fuging free throws.  I’m so fuging sick of this poo.  As much as I love watching LaMelo, fug the NBA.

Was gonna post as well, they say it’s to ensure competitive integrity so a team doesn’t intentionally bomb for 82 games to ensure the #1 pick, but in actuality, that has nothing to do with why they use a lottery…  they use the lottery so they can intentionally rig the top picks to who they want to have them and then throw their hands up like, “what???  Well, that’s just the way the ping pong balls landed.”

This poo is literally like me going and winning a fuging scratch off for a million not once, not twice, but eight fuging times.  They just keep throwing it in our faces over and over and over again.  WWE is more real than the NBA is at this point.

I agree it does seem the league is against Charlotte but the picks they've made have been questionable. They've had sure fire picks fall to them and they keep trying to build a army of forwards who cannot shoot for some reason lol. You got to make a move in offseason and or trade for scoring. I get the best aren't coming to Charlotte but theres been opportunities at solid players with experience, that would've come just to be the man here in Charlotte. They got to stop over thinking this in the draft too. Take the best scorers available! I'm hearing we need more size on the wing, a big man, great defender, etc. but nothing about scoring or a shot creator. This team has been terrible at shooting the rock especially from the perimeter and its a iso 3 ball league, no one plays defense or really runs an offense. This franchise does not do well with developing players either. I've seen too many guys take huge leaps once they were away from Charlotte which is concerning. And even more concering that they're taking developmental guys when they have no business doing so. So, All that to say take a proven scorer, high basketball IQ guy, a unpolished player will not survive here.

The Hornets need to draft better and develop better, there is no doubt about that, but saying the solution is to simply crystal ball who will be the best players each draft and then also have those players be available at wherever you’re picking is beyond silly.

SGA and Giannis were drafted in the teens. Jokic was a second rounder. If it was as simple as the teams that drafted them knew they would be superstars and we didn’t, then the teams that drafted them would have traded up as high as they could to get those players and not wait until the teens or second round. If it’s as simple as the teams that drafted them are just god tier developers, then why do they fail developing other players just like everybody else?

Golden State are known as great drafters and developers, yet they took Wiseman at 2 over Lamelo and that was clearly the wrong decision. The Hornets would have probably taken Wiseman at 2 as well. There were 11 players taken before Haliburton that draft, he wasn’t even in play with the 3rd pick. The Thunder would have probably taken Oden at 1 if they had 1, instead of Durant at 2.

There’s an element of luck to all this that the Hornets clearly lack, and to have the lotto rigged on top of it all is just a slap in the face. Do you really think Durant would have busted on the Hornets? Or Anthony Davis or Wemby? I don’t, but unfortunately we’ll never know because the league doesn’t let those players get drafted here.

Honestly, the Hornets have done pretty decent the past few drafts. Whatever problems they have had with injury and otherwise, Lamelo, Williams, Miller, and Bridges have all shown when on the court to be worthy of their draft position. The biggest and dumbest thing they’ve done recently (and it is like Mount Rushmore of stupid moves) was when they traded Jalen Duren for a bunch of second round picks because they thought the roster was too full of talent. Like what the actual fug. I’ll never get over that one.

    • So the last guy who had the job got hired by his former team directly into a role he has no direct experience in?
    • Hard to pass up millions for a couple of days work per week for a coaching gig in the NFL that is 60-80 hours each week during the season and a more relaxed 50 hours a week during the off season. Yeah, I'd love to see him as our DC but hard to see him giving up the cushy job there if he gets it. And he's going to be a great commentator for the network.
    • Really, I think that is where negotiations come in. If you've got a QB getting you to 10 wins but statistically he's not a great performer, then you say look you can take $22 million or you can try it on the market. Because let's face it, out there, any leadership skills that we're seeing aren't going to be on the table, it's just going to be performance and that lands him in the QB2 market, which is much, much less lucrative (although any of us would love that money).  No one is saying that Bryce will be a $50 million QB, barring something short of a miraculous jump. I'm just saying that if we are winning somehow with him at the helm, then it would be fuging stupid to dive back into the rookie pool all over again. Let's say we do hit the 10 win mark, heck, let's call it 11 and a second round in the playoffs. I think we can all say that would be a really uplifting result and one that should be doable if we have good play. What do we do then? Here's what I would offer if I were Morgan and Tepper. $25 million a year for 3 years, each year with up to $10 million in incentives for touchdowns, wins, playoff depth, being under 10 interceptions, completing a full season, passing yardage milestones, taking less than 15 sacks. Look, Bryce isn't a Ferrari, he isn't a Corvette, or a mid-level BMW. He's probably a new Toyota Sienna that will definitely get you somewhere and bring the whole team along with it, no fuss but not a lot of pizazz.  And really, it's about the destination, not about what drove you there.
