Name 3-5 Realistic Free Agents (*additional QB ramblings)...

nobody that good...

There is NO reason to pick up any big free agents this year. we're not going to win the SB next year, probably won't make the playoffs (even with FAs). we need to stay cheap, this year, and draft well. If we're making strides next year, then use FA to fill the gaps. that's was FA is for, if you need a hole filled immidiately for a playoff run THIS YEAR! since we aren't getting a playoff run, then there is no reason to break the bank on anybody really good (ready Aso, Mebane etc.)

My FAs

Volek, Watson (maybe pat williams on a one year if he's too old to get $$$ other places)

so because we are not going to the super bowl next year we shouldnt bring in any top fa? this is the reason why we will stay being average. build through the draft, but fill the open slots with fa is the way.

We stay average or below because we don't have a franchise Qb on our roster. One or two big name FAs at positions like TE only help when you have other pieces in place. Right now bringing in a TE but not upgrading the Qb spot might mean we score 13 points a game this year.

true, but holes you cant fill through the draft should be filled through fa. we have glaring needs to be addressed so hopefully we can make something happened.

and qb is a need, i hope we will select the best one.

The issue is about when you want them to perform. We could easily use yet another 5th round pick at the TE spot but they wouldn't upgrade the position this year but several years down the road. If you think you need an upgrade this year and beleive that this is a critical missing piece to making a playoff run, then you pull the trigger on a guy who is likely expensive but instantly upgrades your team. If you think you are several years away from contending, then you go with a draft pick and take the slower approach.

I hope we are as close as Rivera and Hurney think we are to contending. The only pieces really missing are a franchise quarterback, some DTs, maybe a corner, a RG, and perhaps another receiver if we lose Smitty.

->I thought it'd be interesting to see people's opinions after the draft.

DT] Cofield has of course been thrown around as a candidate now rather than Kiwanuka

QB] I wouldn't mind trying out Travaris Jackson as a strictly backup role to Cam. Pennington would be my top pick as a mentor type. WR] This is only applicable if Smitty leaves: James Jones. He is a future WR1 in the league and is just flat out talented (he needs to improve consistency)

CB] I'm really interested in picking up either Josh Wilson or Chriss Carr - at least one of them will be gone from the Ravens. I'm leaning towards Wilson.

Tommie Harris 29 2yr/5mil-great at the point of attack /average against the run/was one of the top 5 DT at one point /injury prone bad knees/ small DT with speed Rivera type DT

Sims Walker 25 4yr/25mil-Good speed / Above average Route runner/Good hands/ good be great #2 WR move to slot on 3WR sets to make missmatches/young but kind of injury prone could help with departure of SS

Seneca Wallace 2yr/4 mil- good transition QB/ could help Cam in the long run/ Can run Cam newton type offense if need

Jared Gaither 26 5/35 mil Good runblocker/ good Pass Blocker/ can be moved to RG if need or move OTah to RG / can make running to the right unstoppable/ help keep Cam from getting Shellshocked EX D. Carr:D

The way I see the free agency this coming year:

I'd personally like to see us pursue:

Mathias Kiwanuka (DE-Giants)

If we decide to go offensive playmaker with draft pick-1, I think it would make sense to push for Kiwanuka. This guy can be pretty beastly and could fit well in our defense (especially aside CJ when he's re-signed)

James Jones (WR-Packers) & Malcom Floyd (WR-Chargers)

Brandon Mebane (DT-Seahawks)

They may franchise tag him, but rumors are that they may let him become a free agent.

QB...wait not anymore because we drafted Newton! no rambling necessary :) (edit)

Ok first off, no to Kiwanuka. the panthers have Charles Johnson and Greg Hardy. 2nd, i dont see Carolina going after a WR as a free agent sadly, but if they did, i dont think they would be able to outbid Washington for Floyd who i think would chase after him, BUT i think Carolina could get Rice (Sidney that is) in here if he doesnt re-sign with the Vikings.

Now for 3 free agents that i think they sign. one will be a DT, you mention Mebane and that's possible, BUT i think Tommie Harris to a 3 year deal would be great. They should look into a former Redskin in Carlos Rogers to a 3 year deal and they should sign a reciever, but i dont see it happening, BUT i could see Volek signed to a 2 year deal.

That was my post from Feb. check out the one from where I bumped it to get my new perspective

Mebane can be had with a 3rd rounder and Cofield for a 2nd. I believe either one can be obtained. But if you want to talk about most realistic in terms of whos most available I'd name Amobi Okoye, Mike Sims-Walker, and Drayton Florence.
