QB Combine Thread

I just thought his 5 and 7 step drops were way too slow. The combine doesn't make or break a person but high potential or not the guy needs a lot of work to become a pro in the NFL. I hope he is a quick learner. I really like his potential but I just think the timing and the needs of this team doesn't warrant him as the first pick in the draft. I'm rooting for him tho.

So is everyone coming to the conclusion that his accuracy and footwork still need improvement?

Where did I hear this before?

You heard it from nearly everyone who managed to get ahold of decent film of him and actually watched his passing game instead of watching him make plays.

...and yes. You were right. You'll be wrong one of these days though!

PS: Are you still liking Locker? Haven't got a chance to see any combine footage of him but I heard he did better than his Senior Bowl week. Also, crazies, I'm not saying Locker at #1. :P

I've been wrong...I thought we were going 10-6 :( but I'd say my player evaluations are better than my team predictions. I also didn't factor in the injuries. Meh.

I still like Locker. He is every bit the athlete that Cam is and is a more polished passer. I still think he could end up the best QB from this class but it'll take the right situation. I still have it Gabbert, Locker, then Cam/Mallet as still a 3/4 near tie.

Still don't want any of them though. My hope is Moore/Palmer/Colin K :)

I'm not at all convinced Jake Locker will make it in the NFL, but something tells me he's the kind of player that would impress our scouts more than most of the other guys in a mental aspect just by the sheer response of all the criticism he's taken. He's taken it in stride for the most part.

I'd rather have a QB that can play ball though

I guess the anti Cam people are right. It's better to go with Jimmy Clausen, who has a great understanding of an NFL offense, but who is scared out on the field, than to go with an elite talent who needs to clean up his footwork. Whatever.

You do know that those aren't the only options right?

    • Hey if they could beat Seattle… tiebreaker head to head over GB, LARms, Seattle… win out the record is 11-6.  Now rap my knuckles for suggesting we win out, but that would be some funny poo. Talk about sneaking up on people.
    • I expected 6 wins this season. I need to see the Panthers blow by that now that they exceeded it by 1. I like how Canales has schemed around the weaknesses on offense in the passing game. I am impressed with the receivers, run blocking, running back combo and secondary communication in zone. Defense and QB need more consistency. The improvement of the defensive play calling and critical 3rd down and 4Q passing when trailing is going to be what I am looking for going into the playoffs. If the Panthers can consistently regain the lead after trailing over the next 4 games, I can see them competing in the playoffs and worth a reevaluation of the last 2 seasons' weaknesses. This is the prove it or lose it moment in their Panthers careers for Young and Evero. No excuses.
    • He's on the smaller size for a center (5'8" 175lbs) and he is a bit of a liability in the faceoff circle. But, he's a proven 60 pt player with room to grow. I'd still rather go get TT from Buffalo. Rossi would be a great consolation prize, though.
