The Toronto Maple Leafs and Carolina Hurricanes are among the teams with interest in New Jersey Devils defenseman Dougie Hamilton, reports The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun.

However, it's believed that the Maple Leafs would only consider a trade if the Devils retained a significant portion of Hamilton's contract, LeBrun adds. Hamilton is signed for two more seasons after 2025-26 with a $9-million cap hit.

He also has a 10-team trade list, but Hamilton's agent, J.P. Barry, said his client is willing to consider teams outside that list to help accommodate a move.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Someone needs to explain how this benefits the Canes in any way. Any weakness on Carolina's blue line is a result of RBA's inability to establish any pairings with Slavin not in the lineup.

Hamilton is far from physical and, in many respects, he's a younger version of Brent Burns. Not a physical intimidator in any way and a fairly mediocre D-man. The only draw may be his offense?

There are a few other priorities I would like to see addressed heading into the playoffs before bringing in a retread D-man.

A lot of our trouble on d is rods system DOES NOT WORK WELL WITH OFF HANDED DEFENDERS.  This would restore the balance

I bet it happens.  Do we trade for Ned as well?

I'm actually not against bringing Ned back.

He has proven himself to be a reliable 1b. He might honestly be the best option on the market.

    • I've already posted this but I think it's worth repeating here: "To me, that's an insult to Horn but that's besides the point. Against the Dolphins, the Panthers faced a 4-5 with 3:31 left in the game. Bryce hit Horn for a 17 yrd completion picking up the 4th down and leading to a score for the win." So why shoulf they have not used Horn on that down given they had before - with success.
    • each of the past 3 yeara byoungs y/g passer rating and qbr all have been between 30th and 24th.  up and down he hasnt improved he had the atlanta game thus year and a few ok games but didnt even eclipse 300 yards but 2 games and one of those 2 againdt arizona he got 300 bc he was trying to come back from a blowout he caused by playinf horrific.  i just dont see what everyome else sees maybe i am the one with the issue bc i cant see his greatness.  i woild rather an udfa rookie next year at qb
    • It may help satisfy the rule, but I don't think the franchise that pushed for the rule is interviewing anyone they wouldn't seriously consider for the job just to satisfy the rule. If the Steelers interview you, they have legitimate interest in hiring you
