Gross to Eagles or Rams?

Panther Boyd

Recommended Posts

I know that there have been a couple of threads on this but I don't remember seeing anything about the other teams. I hear that the Eagles and the Rams are throwing some major cash toward Gross.

If we would lose him, would you go after another LT or try to move Otah to the otherside?

Free Agency is not open.....they can't be throwing cash at anyone right now.

Well our line played actually very well with gross AND otah out. I say let Gross walk, if pep gets franchised and traded were lookin at an ass load of cap space. Suggs and Haynesworth kind of cap lol, I can dream right?

You can't be serious about letting Gross just walk are you? He is worth every penny that he makes.

So we let Gross walk along with Pep (who is a foregone conclusion), so that we can have a poo ton of cap space.

BRILLIANT!!!!!!

Not only are we going to lose our dynamic DE but we are going to also lose our cornerstone LT. In exchange for this we can sign a) a DT who may or may not be motivated after signing a long term big time contract, B) a DE/OLB hybrid who is much better suited to play DE.

BRILLIANT!!!!!!!

You have to make every effort possible to keep Gross.

That's correct, as a legal matter. But if you don't think other teams are having informal conversations with Gross' agent about what they WILL offer once the exclusivity period expires, you're crazy. Gross' agent knows exactly what the market will bear for his client and the Panthers are well aware of that.

No we aren't.

Peppers and Gross have no contracts beyond this season.

The projected cap figures calculate contracts for next season.

Therefore that $8 million that has been thrown around is the space we have to sign Gross and Peppers. Luckily Gambles contract and obviously his 'hometown' discount allowed us to immediately create an extra $8-10 million. Therefore we have somewhere between $16-18 million to sign Gross, franchise Pep and subsequently sign free agents and draftees. $16-18 million is not a huge amount if we let them BOTH walk because it would take around $5 million to sign the draftees giving us a whooping $12 million to sign one of those marque players you are thinking of.

Incidently to assume that the ONE game that we played when both were out AUTOMATICALLY means we can reproduce it is just crazy talk. There is a big reason why so many OL are picked in the top 5 and why the LT is one of the highest paid positions. These guys win championships and they are NOT a dime a dozen. When they were both out you have to think back up QB situation, in that the opposition had gameplanned and worked towards one players weaknesses. With a back up in that gets thrown out the window, but as soon as that back up is exposed to a consistent season of playing...they quickly get found out.

For the record we actually struggled mightily with Otah out for those couple of games. Our performance on the right side dipped significantly in the running game.

When did this happen? Do you know you are talking about letting a ALL PRO LT?????? Who is still young?????? I'm not just talking about a Pro Bowl LT. I'm talking All Pro (that means people consider him the best in league). They don't grow on Trees and you think we should let him walk????? Please stop posting without pre thought.

    • And really, it should be 4 reasons with the last one being that there were ZERO other offensive weapons on that team in 2024, opposing defenses only had to worry about one player all year long and they constantly double and triple teamed him right off the snap all season.  In 2023, we still had Jacob Cowing who had 90 catches that year and was drafted by the 49ers last year, so teams couldn't just send everyone after T-Mac on every passing down.
    • I wonder if the Hornets view Kon and McNeeley more as forwards and plan to ship off Green/Okogie/Smith for center help. I hope they don’t plan to ship off Sexton as I like what he brings to the team. (2) G - Ball, Mann, Simpson (two-way) (3) G - Sexton, Dinwiddie, Connaughton (3) F - Miller, Knueppel, McNeeley, James (two-way) (3) F - Bridges, Williams, Salaun (3) C - Diabate, Kalkbrenner, Plumlee
    • 3 main reasons he was better in 2023 and none of them concern me for his NFL prospects 1. Totally new coaching staff that was a massive downgrade and had god awful play calling and designs, the entire fan base was ready to run the coaching staff out of town a month into their first season and the play caller ended up getting changed because it was so bad. 2. Along with the staff downgrade, his QB played significantly worse after being the Pac 12 Freshman of the Year in 2023.  Constantly missed T-Mac when he was wide open, lost out on a number of TDs and a good amount of yardage, half the time T-Mac still almost made miraculous catches on the bad passes too. 3. He hurt his ankle over the summer and missed all of fall camp only to return to practice a few days before the season started and I think he had to deal with it all season long and was slightly limping at times mid season too, but kept fighting through it to still be a 1st team All American.
