Yas: By the numbers - Newton vs. Gabbert

imo, you would have to give the same respect to attempts to TDs. that really doesn't work out in gabbert's favor.

still, i would love to find fumble stats for college players.

You're right, if you're considering stats, you should. Gabbert had awful stats. Not defending them, just saying there is more to it than TD:INT ratio. There's a lot that goes into how those numbers came about.

Nobody who drafts Gabbert is doing it for his stats. The same is true of Cam Newton really, just on the opposite end of it.

agreed. it's primarily potential, work ethic, coachability and other intangibles.

    • No one way to do it, it does appear that with the bigger draft picks of the last 5 years…..majority haven’t steered clear of young QBs on the roster being their hopeful guy. Especially past their rookie seasons but even some the biggest ones have had it early.   As far as Andy Dalton, the two young guys he has “mentored”…..have had very rough NFL starts.  Which really ask the why the heck is Dalton here.   He doesn’t really check any box.  No young potential.  Can’t step in and win.  And his mentor track record with Fields and now Bryce is bad
    • I had thought the Panthers might let him play out his contract this year and hope he stays healthy. If not draft a left tackle and move Ekwonu to right tackle.
    • Frankly, if most teams in the NFL lose their starting QB for a significant amount of time, they're screwed. The fantasy is that one has a future Tony Romo or a Nick Foles that can carry a stacked team. The reality is that you might get roughly 3~5 games out of your backup before it all falls apart. Remember all of Peyton Manning's backups? Utterly terrible. Speaking of backup QB's, Raiders may need one. https://www.nfl.com/news/raiders-qb-aidan-o-connell-suffered-fractured-wrist-in-preseason-finale-expected-to-be-out-6-8-weeks
