The Two Kicker Conundrum

Baker is a dang good punter and will be 33 this year

Kasay is a great fg kicker that will be 42 this year.

If you get rid of Baker this year to keep Kasay, you could easily be in a position where you are forced to find a new kicker the following year. Kasay is just flat out getting old. Isn't his contract up after this season?

Baker was 20th in average punts and 25th in net average last year.

ok, so you don't think Baker is a good punter b/c of what the stats read last year?

Stats for punters don't really tend to be affected that much by how bad a team was, except for punts downed inside the 20. Which is why I did not include those. I also don't know of any other way to judge a punter than to go by his stats. If you know of a better way, please let me know.

Anyways, his stats for the rest of the time he has been with us...

2009

16th avg 28th net avg

2008

16th avg 22nd net avg

2007

13th avg 13th net avg

2006

3rd avg 3rd net avg

2005

15th avg 3rd net avg

So he had 1 year in 2006 where he was one of the best punters in the league. Since then, he has gotten consistently worse each year, and his avg punt has dropped almost 2 full yards.

Edit: I like Baker, I just think that if we are going to drop either Baker or Kasay, I would rather drop a below average punter than drop one of the most consistent FG kickers in the league.
