Part of Freeman's "success" in his first season was he was allowed to throw the ball. 10/19 says they let him throw...Clausen wasn't allowed to throw the ball, didn't grow last year or get better. But he does have NFL game experience. And if given the time and training to play the game, he could...might!...be a decent QB. Probably the same time and training Cam will need...at least Clausen has a year already under his belt.

Clausen wasn't allowed to throw because he sucked. It was clear Josh Freeman had potential. We all thought Clausen did as well, but he showed us nothing, unlike Josh Freeman who excited the Bucs because at least he showed them flashes. Even J RUSS would have his mentions. Tell me, what was Clausens best play of the year?

When you have a coaching staff that does not give a poo about the team and what happens you get a year like Clausen had. I don't blame Clausen for his sorry play. I blame Fox and his staff.

Coaching staff did care. Jake was able to run this offense effectively at times and Moore had some very effective games as well. Clausen never even had one great game. A couple of okay ones but no great games or even great moments.

If he improves he will still only be at Jake Delhomme's level.

God wouldn't have beaten out Mike Vick this past season...when he got his shot, he played well. Can you say that about Clausen?

He shouldn't have had a chance to play that well. The way everyone was down on vick, There were talks that he would never be a quarterback again to talks that he was going to be a WR. They handed kolb the job and booted donovan out of town.

2008 Divisional playoff Cardinal game Jake Delhomme level maybe...

Was Jake here last year? What does two and three years ago have to do with a lame duck coaching staff? They were gone and they knew it, they didn't give a poo if Clausen learned to play in the NFL or not.

    • I think you have to factor in that we're still not an attractive proposition for Head Coaches. You're not getting the cream of the crop if you fire Canales a year after winning the NFC South, especially considering the situation he walked into.
    • Yeah, I was about to say I hope he's doing okay health-wise because he's not looking good in that pic.
    • Honestly, I dont  think he should be on the hot seat yet. A bad start to next year, then yes. Despite our mistakes on play calling this past season, we played better than anticipated overall. Bryce showed improvement and maturity (although still not nowhere close to our expectations). Better record and 2-15 to 5-12 to 8-9. Despite what we feel the stats dont lie we are improving by 3 wins a year. Could 11-6 be our expectation. That's a high bar but at the rate we are going, thats what its looking like. We all want to see a 5-12 to a 13-4 record but we are methodically moving up. Success doesnt happen overnight (well in most cases).  IMO we are struggling mostly on the defensive end. LB and edge are our biggest weakness. I see Bryce making improvements (even though I was a Bryce hater) next year. Biggest concern is LT on offense. How to fix this? We need a big name edge or to trade up and get a big name edge or LB and pick up one in FA and draft one. Also if in the 3rd we can pick up a TE. Dont know if Sanders is the answer or Tremble (even though I love Trembles blocking and power after the catch). If these two can get their footwork together they would be great. Maybe all they need is a better TE coach. And if Brooks can stay healthy and be the back we thought he could be, man that would be great
