Cam Newton: Risk vs Reward.

Awesomeness!!

Recommended Posts

Reward: A potential Super Star QB that would attract attention to this cit for the first time since.....well ever. There would not be an empty seat in Bank of America, people would finally be talking about the Carolina Panthers, and thats before he steps on the field. Then, once the CBA is settled, and Cam finally plays, he has the potential to become the next Mike Vick. Excitement, fun, and a winner most importantly. He would be here for the next 10 years, getting this team on the map, hopefully winning championships along the way.

Risk:He bust out and after 2 or 3 years we release him and look for another QB.

might as well take a chance for that reward. Naysayers dont want a QB for 2-3 anyway, what 's to lose

Why do people give an airborne rodent's rectum whether people are talking about us or not?

If you want people to talk about you how about by winning games? I'm not so sure Newton's even the best guy to do that. Pick the best player, not who will give you the most buzz, that's just dumb

You guys think missing on a quarterback you used a number one pick on is no big deal, eh?

NFL coaches and GMs would tell you otherwise.

It sure set the Raiders back a decade, no wait they cut his ass and brought in help and kept it moving...no big deal especially with a rookie wage scale. What if it's not a miss?

You want to argue that you don't think he'll be a bust, that makes sense.

Arguing that busting on a number one pick at QB is no big deal is pretty well divorced from reality.

Winning draws free agents, not media attention.

Smart GMs go for the best players. Any GM who factors hype and media attention into who he drafts is a moron.

The Panthers dont win consistently and our owner is frugal. Its gonna take a Cam Newton to get people caring about us again. Cam is the safest pick and quickest fix for our franchise.

It's a big deal financially and it's a big deal if you miss out on better talent. You're right, but it's a risk all teams take every year with every pick so it's not that big of a deal. Not like trading away picks for no reason that's a big deal. I think he's gonna work to be a good if not great QB.

Couldn't agree with you more. Regardless of how much you're paying him, you're committing at least two or three years to a #1 pick. If you miss on him, that's at least three years, plus the next couple years as you have to find and develop a new QB. Give Clausen one more year, go defense or try to trade down (which is doubtful) for A.J. Green or Julio Jones

    • This is huge may not be a trap game but this plays a major part in what they want to do. If we can get some pressure on Sam we know what he does with pressure coming hit and heavy. Also we may be able to take the top off their defense a backup safety trying to stop TMac or Cooker over the top or forcing him to play the backend should allow us to run the ball somewhat effectively. Either they allow some runs or we take some shots and if Bryce and whoever can connect deep we’ll be in business for another big time win against a top notch opponent. Might not be a trap game but health travel game plans all play a major role in each weeks game plan and this week might be leaving our way. We’re missing some replaceable pieces they’re missing key anchors to the offense and defense major difference time to solidly ourselves at one of the top teams in the nfc tomorrow fellas buckle up.
    • Yes.  If I am not mistaken, we need to sign Coker to the ERFA tender and insist that XL spends his spring and summer at a WR camp and not Coon huntin on his four wheeler.  XL was raw when we picked him--which is why I wanted to go another direction--and we are seeing how raw.  He is basically learning a position.     The Panthers will make their move in 2026 to be an NFL powerhouse behind Bryce.  Bryce needs intelligent WRs who catch the ball.  That said, we need a solid #2 to challenge XL and make cutting him easy, if necessary.  A #2 WR (intented to be a #1 by now) with under 400 yards is embarrassing.   On offense, you have to ask, "Where can we get better?"  In my view, #2 WR, TE (although they are improving) and maybe C (again, if we re-sign Mays, he is trending up and at 26, entering his prime--I say stay with him and find competition later in the draft (not good for C).  OL depth maybe?  In other words, XL is a glaring weak spot.
