On The Beat: Panthers No.1; Joseph Person Prediction

If you want to see a fake smile, just watch any 24hour news program when they interview a politition, regardless of party. You can always tell it's fake because their mouths are smiling but their eyes aren't. I don't see that with Cam at all.

the kid is smiling because he can't believe he is getting away with all this poo. He is gonna make millions and when he busts he won't give a damn.

The difference is a lot of that is pure media speculation. Every time I have seen or heard an actual teammate or coach of Cam's asked about it, they always have his back on these issues.

I mean, the guy is a bit of a diva. So what? So is Tom Brady.

I trust Hurney and Rivera to be able to determine if this stuff is true. Rivera is a hard-nosed genuine type of guy; a no-bullpoo type of coach. He'll be able to determine if these issues have any truth to them or not.

Teammates defended Clausen too.

Don't expect objectivity from teammates. You generally won't get it.

If, however, you find a guy whose teammates actually are willing to speak negatively about him, it's a huge red flag.

Joe Person sounds like that Ben Stein meets TV life insurance salesmen.

He sounds like Adam Corolla's little brother to me.

he based all that off a 10 minute meeting with a prospect. teams will do their hw on their guys.

Nawrocki also asks scouts what they think. That's something all the draftniks do. It's not his opinion alone. He's not even the first to say it.

Is he right? Derned if I know.

But as with the others, nobody in the Panthers front office is consulting the PFW draft guide. And if they are, they should be looking for other work.

In other words, you need proof that Cam's coaches and teammates are telling the truth, but you have no problem believing that bad stuff that his unknown teammates are saying, if there really is any, is accurate.

i can tell you with a moral certainty that his teammates really like the guy. i know you guys are skeptical but i know this from direct conversations with people that either played with him or were associated with Auburn and know him personally.

maybe you find one guy out of the 100+ on a football team that has some beef with the guy and that wouldn't be unheard of. but i assure you his teammates love him.

No one will answer why his teammates would carry him from the field if he is such an asshole?

I hear what you are saying and tend to agree. Let's watch what happens over the coming days...this kind of report is going to generate some reaction.

If we see a lot of people coming to Cam's defense, the report can probably be taken with a grain of salt. If, on the other hand, there is mostly silence, you have to take the report seriously.

Another senario can be that Cam or no one else cares what the article says since there has been so much negative press against him anyway.

honestly that is the reason i defend him as hard as i do because i feel a lot of that is plain unfair

Same here. Too many people made up their minds a long time ago that they hate Cam Newton no matter what he has done or will do. The irony is that, if Cam had committed to their favorite school, those same people would be defending him instead of bashing him right now.

What gets me is the comments under the article...people have such hatred for this kid

Could not agree more. Should it turn out that the PFW report is valid, I will re-evaluate my position, but only because I will then have additional info.

But the people that just hate without good justification are sad. Get the most info you can, keeping an open mind, and then make your decision. Don't do it based on gut feel, and then go searching for cohorts to help you bully the guy.
