A.J. Green...Number-1 to Panthers?

Actually, it is about youth for me.

One of the major things that bit us last year was so much youth and no veteran leadership or influence (this due to the veteran purge). One of the few spots where we did have a veteran was at receiver.

That issue needs to be corrected this season, not worsened.

The Bucs had one of the youngest teams in the league and won 10 games. It's all about talent.

We're EXTREMELY young at every position excluding O-Line, LB's and the secondary where most of the starters have three years under their belts. Reguardless of your preference of pick at any of our positions of need QB, DT, WR etc. we will be getting even younger at said position.

So either way your concern is still an issue it is what it is til the team grows up a bit.

That's why I want us signing free agents (when we can)

Ok (when we can sign free agents), why not get even younger somewhere (in this threads case WR) else. Especially given a player like Smith only has so much left to offer, if it's even here in Carolina...

Given a position like receiver where you can have much more of an immediate impact, vs a position like QB/DT. I'll be straight up I'm not sold on either QB, and I can't see selecting a DT #1 reguardless of how big of a need it may be when that DT's last name isn't Suh.

I'm in the group that would like to see us add to the leagues 32nd overall (well underall) offense, and let River take a defense that was middle of the pack, and work his magic.

I'm beginning to wonder if Smith and Ron Rivera aren't exactly warming up to each other.

Purely speculation on my part, mind you. It's just the impression I get from some of what I've read.

I have been wondering the same thing for several months. When Rivera talks about SS, it hasn't just been about whether Steve wants to stay...he also talks about organizational needs.

I can envision a conversation where Rivera told Steve he needed to become more supportive of younger players, and Steve balking a bit.

Agree 100 percent that they aren't on the same page right now.

It also adds yet another young guy to a group that has less than a year's experience between them, and likely necessitates getting rid of the one guy in the bunch who actually does have any seasoning.

We spent three draft picks on receiver last year. If we need a new receiver, it should be a free agent, not another young'un.

We technically spent 3 draft picks on QBs last year too. So we don't need a new one?

Talent is talent no matter how many players you have at the position. Green would be the best WR on the team and would be to Clausen(or whoever starts in the future) what young Smitty was to Delhomme. Clausen lacks confidence and a few chunk up catches by Green would do wonders for the guy.

Also, if we're gearing up to draft Luck in 2012, you might as well get him a top WR he can build a relationship with for years to come. Don't forget we have one of the worst offenses in the league, Green would definitely help that. If Smith isn't going to help groom anyone, we might as well bring in a guy who doesn't really need the help and a guy Luck would probably love to throw to.

So the latest mock has us taking Green @ the top, certainly wouldn't disagree with that move, he along with PP7 to me seem to be the MOST pro ready and talented at the top.

But with the lack of support around here for the "The Clause" would you be ok with them improving the offense around Jimmy to see what he can do with weapons and a less predictable offensive philosophy?

The thought of Smith, Green, Gettis/LaFell in the slots, Shockey at TE, our stable of backs, with a bit of AE in the "Wild Panther" and hopefully a cohesive and healthy line could Jimmy prove the haters/doubters wrong?

I can't say I wouldn't mind seeing this scenario play out...thoughts?

Not unless we want to be considered the dumbest franchise ever.

this is rivera's team now. i hate it when people try to match new draft prospects with our old philosophy. not saying that you are...but some people here. smith might not fit what rivera and chud want and im ok with that. i love smith, but this is a different team now. or at least i hope so.

edit: typo

    • Bryce has been playing the best ball of his career the last three games IMO. He wasn't the reason we dropped the game in NOLA. Seattle's defense will be his toughest challenge yet this season
    • I'll be at the game Sunday and up until last year I had a perfect attendance record. Now however I have seen us lose to the Chiefs (last year) and the Bills (this year). So we can no longer rely solely on my ability to pound overpriced beers to propel us to a win.
    • I haven't been able to watch Seattle on a dedicated basis but the Seahawks are a much better team by the all accounts: eye test, record and DVOA. Defensively they are sick. Best DVOA in the league first in rushing and second in passing. Offensively their passing game has been on fire this year led by JSN I can easily see this being like the Buffalo game where things just get out of hand for us early, that being said this league really is week to week and Seattle does have the disadvantage of traveling cross country for an early game.  If and big if, the Panthers are able to effectively run the ball and limit the amount of time Seattle's offense has to generate explosive plays we have a path to winning this game.  Seattle fans won't be happy to hear this but bad Darnold is always lurking in the background. He is truly an enigma to root for bc he will have an incredible throw that only a few people can make but then will turn around and throw the most bone headed pick of all time.  I think ultimately we drop this one as ultimately it's human nature to be looking forward to that week 18 game. But man how special would it be to be leaving the stadium on Sunday with a win and a miracle dolphins upset
