Mayock Warming to Cam Newton

Mayock's moved Cam Newton past Jake Locker. Big surprise, lol.

Said it on Path to the Draft, not sure if an NFL.com link is up yet.

He still has Cam below Gabbert, and I don't really expect that to change. Mayock is extremely high on Gabbert.

His reason for it was basically that he thought Cam was further along, mechanics wise, than The Golden Calf of Bristol/Young were at this point... also said something about dotting i's and crossing t's.

Mayocks only knock on Newton now is will he still be as motivated when he hits pay dirt. Some how everything else has improved.

I still cannot get on the Newton bandwagon.I agree with what Kurt Warner said about running QBs."When was the last time one won a superbowl."They are not as likely to look past the second receiver before taking off. My concern is he seems to be a prima donna.I hope I am wrong because if we do not trade down it appears we may grab him.The good news he has incredible upside and if does not work as QB he could make a good tight end.

Gabbert you mean the guy with the 'happy feet' and unimpressive stats and had one of the top TE for the 2012 NFL draft to throw to? And don't even let me start on his deep pass.

please talk about his "deep pass" because from every NFL analyst and scout that have made comments about him, they all agree he has the arm to make ALL the throws.

The guy also in that video was recommending that Newton brings that Auburn offense with him, that they start to implement the college spread offense in with the normal pro style. Because "that's what the Titans did with Vince Young". If Newton comes to Carolina he needs to be committed to learning the Pro game and working hard as hell to become the best he can be, we don't need a Dwayne Jarett at QB.

Brian Baldinger. And yeah, that part is not happening.

    • I wonder if they'd consider trading Rasheed Walker to a team that needs tackle help but missed out in the draft?
    • LOL. This is such a Panthers fan take.  Anyone who falls to us must suck because some other team didn't take them before.  We got lucky with Lemon, Thieneman, and Freeling all falling to us (honestly any of the three is a A+) but the WR and S positions are much deeper than the LT position in this draft.  We got the LT w/ the most upside at 19.  Mauigoa played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the nfl.  Spano played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the NFL due to short arms.  Blake Miller played RT in college and is not as good as Freeling.  Proctor is a true LT but his ability to handle quick edge's worries me (see Icky).  Freeling is a true LT and a gifted pass protector.  Many think he has a very high ceiling and will benefit from not having to start right away.  This is how you build a franchise.
    • After watching Cam get killed for years behind a bad Oline and having to watch the 2021 and 2023 Olines I will never complain about this team putting resources into that spot.  We got a true LT who could really push Rasheed Walker for the day 1 job. Go back and watch Iceky's draft profile from 2022 and all the talk was Ickey would be an all-pro guard in a zone blocking scheme, but he could play LT in a gap power run scheme. That's why Ickey looked really good when Wilks took over and we just started running gap run plays and just mauled people up front but under Canales we've been more of a zone running team. Ickey can survive at LT with his pass blocking but his true strength will always be his ability to just move guys in the run game and that's a skill set that's better used at guard.  Take another OT later on day 3 to learn from Moton to take over RT in a couple of years and let Walker and Freeling battle it out for the day 1 LT job then next offseason trade one of Hunt of Lewis and let Ickey move inside to guard.
