Fans run the ship for a week: Clausen

I guess I see it differently. I don't think the Panthers should have been that bad last year, and the reason they were so bad lies squarely on the QB position. I think a promising QB can show...I dunno, something, even in the midst of adversity. And neither of those guys did.

Would really like McNabb/Palmer/Garrard then Newton and Moore backing either of those guys up, but the more realistic option right now I believe is getting Hasselbeck then Newton and Clausen to back him up. I think McNabb and Palmer would be asking for too much and I dont think the Jags are going to let go of Garrard yet.

More to the point, I'm perplexed as to why so many people on this board think we should sit a rookie QB behind any alternative, period. I mean, seeing as we don't have a viable QB option, seems like strange, outdated "conventional wisdom" to me, unsupported by anything.

To folks who think this way, would your minds change if we picked Gabbert?

NOTHING pissed me off more than play calling last year.

I can only put it politely: I fully disagree with anyone who doesn't consider the coaching staff a big part of our failure last year.

Watching Moore and Clausen, I really can't figure out whether our coaching staff didn't want to help them or were entirely too incompetent to do so. That has more to do with Clausen. Moore just reminded me of how stubborn our coaches were (or unimaginative they were)..

what is very hard for anyone to dispute is how incompetent our coaching staff was last year.

Although I want us to draft Cam...

I think just about every Panthers fan has been frustrated with our...policy? on offense for years, but that's no excuse for what we saw last year at QB.

I think if there was ONE thing every Panther fan had to agree with, you nailed it.

I can't wait to see this coaching staff uphold a style that I prefer, as a fan. of course, who knows how many fans will be cussing them in 5 years.

But seriously even w/o the play calling our QBs seriously sucked last year.

lol.. isn't it weird how playcallng has a lot to do with the offense? ;)

I guess. We did make it within a hair's width of winning a SB and to a couple of conference championships with the same system and Jake playing at a decent level, mostly.

one thing I always feel rings true in the NFL that fans seems to forget or fail to realize... the smallest of changes have huge results. You never make a drastic change without expecting drastic results.

Just because we put up a great SB appearance doesn't mean Fox had a secret formula later down the road.

Fox's system always seem to rely on everything falling in place and working just right..there was no room for the unexpected injuries/young players who may be better but didn't work the gameplan just like he wanted it. This game can't really be played that way anymore if you want consistent winning.

    • To me, this seems like they feel they aren't going to be competitive. I can't help but go back to Bryce. Good guy, but he doesn't inspire people to give it their all. He isn't a "leader" that people look to. There is no Smith, Delhomme, Kuechly, Cam, etc. coming in that door.  It has to be Bryce, but biologically speaking, how often is the shortest man in the room going to command the kind of respect that will drive people? It just isn't. That isn't how we are wired. That isn't how any living animal on Earth today is wired.  I just follow the science guys.
    • Vick's issue with Reid was that he couldn't take a hit, and he wouldn't go down. Otherwise he was pretty good much of the time.  Mahomes has a system that works. Mahomes doesn't become Mahomes elsewhere because not everyone can extract 125% of the ability of a specific player like Reid can. Kevin O'Connell is beginning to look like he has that ability as well but I'll need to see how he does with his Redshirt Freshman.  I also wonder how much of their playoff issue last year was related to the offense as a whole and not just Darnold. Fans don't really dive into the "why" things happen, they just see the what and complain about it.
