Nobody would put 10 people in the box vs Cam Newton

Awesomeness!!

Everybody we played last year (regardless of who started at QB) basically stuffed 8 people in the box all game long. I believe the Bucs at one point put 9 and 10 people in the box.......really. With Cam, they have to spy him. If you don't you of course run the risk of getting bootlegged, like what Atlanta did with Vick every single play almost. One less guy waiting to kill our RB gives the running game a little more room. The threat ALONE opens up the run, our strongest asset. Now, if we draft Cam, you have to believe we're going to run more of a spread offense, so you put Smitty, and Gettis on opposite sides, Lafell in the slot, D Will or Stew in the backfield, and maybe even Goodson as a scat back, we could run almost any play in the playbook. You could still have a strong running game where Will and Stew both get 15-20 carries, but now at least you leave the defense guessing. There was no element of surprise last year. Everybody watching and participating in the game knew when we were running. Like I said, the threat alone is huge.

Good post! I agree, although I think it'll be more like Gettis and Lafell on the outside and Smitty and Edwards in the slots.

I'd be more excited if he forced them out of the box due to his arm....our offense needs more balance than it has had in past years. Someone is going to have to figure out how to get the ball downfield...that's the best way to open up the running game.

Nu-uh!

N.A. said that Nooton's super awesum amazin running abilitee will scare defenderz into covering 35 yards down the feeld!

Duh!

Nobody will put 9 or 10 men in the box because Fox is no longer our head coach. With our 900 page playbook, we have a few options that don't involve running up the middle.

Why for a 2nd I forgot last year Fox was our coach and we had a new coach last year

    • It appears that he sees things differently than the QB and OC, so Cam's advice is spot on. It isn't about number of targets, it's about quality of targets. Trust and being on the same page. BY doesn't know how to anticipate what XL is doing. And XL doesn't like where BY is placing passes. One on one film study would go a long way. More for BY than XL though. He has to adjust to XL. I really don't think XL can adjust on the fly.
    • If the team shows improvement, then he shouldn't be in danger of losing his job - even if the record doesn't reflect. This was a very young team (with a lot of new vet starters) that overperformed last season. Somebody's doing something right. Consistency is key with so much youth. And we're potentially looking at new starters at ILB and FS. Those are positions that take time to fully understand the defense. ILB calls the front 7. Safety calls the back 4. Injuries at WR and IOL killed the offense last season. Depth needs to be upgraded. Same with Edge. I think they would have won more games if Pat Jones doesn't go down early. Be smart with the roster and draft. Trade players for assets when it's time to pay them more than they're worth - yes, that includes BY if he doesn't make a pretty big jump. That's one of the many reasons Tillis is as important as anyone to the future of this team.
    • He had heart surgery a while back he looks Fraile I hope he is okay
