dareus refuses to be derailed

Defense better than the offense? Yeah.

Nothing wrong? Lord no :nonod:

The DT rotation we have is borderline awful.

And like I SAID we could get a DT through FA or draft one in the 3rd! there are far more better options at DT than there is at QB.

So who else replayed the slow-mo hit with the energy effects over 10 times?

Watch the dummy helmet hit the ground. Holy crap.

what's even more impressive is the speed he ran thru the bags and immediately changed directions to hit the "QB" with that much force.

can you imagine what he would do if he was unblocked and had a straight run at a QB or RB?

for the people who didn't read thru the entire article...

Dareus' first breakout moment came during his freshman season, in a win over LSU. After starting nose tackle Terrence Cody left the game with an injury, Dareus replaced him and held his own against a strong offensive line. By Dareus' sophomore season, Davis saw so much potential in his blossoming defensive end that he called a friend in the NFL to say Dareus -- who started only four games that season -- was "the kind of talent that comes around once every 20 years."

jimmy clausen had flaws...but they were ignored because he had a "pedigree" and came from an offense where he took snaps under center.

No no... lets not deflect here. Clausen was labeled "Pro Ready". There was shock and dismay that he dropped to the 2nd round.

"Pro-ready" is a nice way to summarize someone's guess. And that's all it is... someone's guess.

Cause as someone else said... until a player suits up and lines up in a formation on an NFL field... you'll never KNOW if he's really "Pro-ready".

$10 says pro ready means something different to the media and fans than it does to actual scouts.

That being said, I think our DTs played at a higher level that what I thought them capable of last season. I think John Fox or Baker got the most out of that group.

Even HOFs had crappy rookie years. I'm not a huge Clausen fan, but I realize that he could be much better than what he showed us last year.

Just a question, will you be willing to dump Cam if he has a crappy rookie year? If not, you should extent Jimmy the same courtesy.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
