Why so sensitive?

I just don't understand why some people will bash a draft pick just because they don't know anything about them. Believe me, this new Panthers coaching staff does know about these kids and they have a plan for how to use them. How can any of us pretend to know more than them when they have been watching tape and meeting these guys in person, and know exactly what kind of players they want for their system?

Draft weekend is generally a time when even Bengals fans have visions of their team holding the Super Bowl trophy.

Heck, who should have more reason to be optimistic than us? Wholesale changes have been made in the team (for the better, I think) and while another disastrous year is technically possible, it isn't a stretch to say that we have nowhere to go but up.

And yet a significant portion of the discussion here today is about what could go wrong, dislike of Hurney / dislike of this year's picks or bad stuff someone said about us :(

I'm as big a believer in being realistic as you'll find, but even I gotta ask: For at least a day or two, wouldn't it be more fun to leave last year's disasters behind and dream a little?

There is a history of worst to first in this division...

It's one thing to remain supportive of your team after a colossal mistake with the first overall pick, but it's a total different thing to force yourself to be excited about it.

You say that as if you know it's true, but you really don't. Is it really that hard to give the kid a chance to prove himself before you proclaim him to be a colossal bust?

Hardest Schedule in the NFL (based on last year) + One of the biggest projects ever + Not being able to practice/communicate due to greedy bastards = Recipe for disaster

sorry :(

Agreed..and im usually at least semi-optimistic.

It is VERY VERY FLAWED to continue using next seasons schedule as "the hardest" for discussions

Our schedule at this point in the year means nothing to me... ---- And very rarely are the strong and weak teams the same from one year to the next.... Strength of schedule is based on old historical data that has little relevance in predicting the schedule strength for the upcoming season.

Also we have NO, ATL, and TB twice who all finished with good records and inflate our schedule strength.

Even looking towards the future the NFC North, and AFC South are not the toughest divisions to be playing... Tennessee- No QB, Houston - Stuck in mediocrity, Jacksonville - See Houston, Detroit - On the rise not great yet, Min - No QB on the decline, Chicago - Above average depending on the day...

Then our other two games based on standings - Arizona and Washington, both with a lot of holes and QB issues like us.... So the schedule means nothing to me, especially if you’re saying it will be hard.

Let me rephrase....It's one thing to remain supportive of your team after what you feel is a colossal mistake with the first overall pick, but it's a total different thing to force yourself to be excited about it.

BTW, I am giving him a chance. That's what is meant by the "remain supportive". I just haven't bought in to the hype and don't have a good feeling that he'll ever reach this high ceiling that so many people believe he'll realize, and that's why I can't get excited about it. I hope I'm completely wrong. I really do.

Haters gone reach

As you can see, I rarely post, but I do visit this site often. One thing that has really irritated me during this entire draft build up - why is everyone who questions Cam Newton's abilities called a hater? I'm really curious why that is. There were many negative things said about Blaine Gabbart on this board, but no one called them Gabbart haters. Same thing with Mallett. Yet, everytime anyone has posted any negative comments about Cam Newton, no matter how true the comments are, they are labled haters. Can anyone explain this? Why is it that the pro-Cam crowd is so sensitive?

Bravo, Scott. Very well said, and I for one am going to enjoy the changes and stay optimistic about the future until things prove otherwise. Yes, maybe we are in a rebuilding phase and may not win big for awhile, but it is fun watching a young team grow together.

The hater and hugger labels for me have been tiresome for some time. Speaking as a person that has been in the pro-Cam camp since early in the process, many people that liked him became overly defensive after watching a few attack him over and over about the least little thing. Lost in the vitriol were those with a more balanced view that did or did not like Cam.

It is time for everyone to move beyond the labels. He is ours and we need to show some pride in our new Panthers.
