Clausen's Still Fighting

He responded with "it's mine.

It is his for now. Why should he give it up? He may have sucked last year but he stuck through it and played as tough as he was capable of and the one thing none of us can take away from him is that he got up after every play and got back in the huddle. If he never amounts to anything so be it but the way he played is not a good reason to take that jersey from him. Beyond that, he didn't even say "ILL NEVER GIVE IT UP WAAAH!" he left the door open that he could part ways with it. He has every right to that jersey because he actually played in the NFL last year.

You talk about entitlement, there's nothing more entitled than walking into a team as a rookie and demanding an open competition for a jersey number. Luckily for us, Cam isn't as stupid as you are.

Personally I want him to wear #1 but it's good to hear Clausen's showning some confidence this competition will be great for our squad short term and long term. Worthy of HBO Hard Knocks interesting to say the least just wish we knew we were having a season :(

So do you think we should an open competition for every number in camp?

After all, it wasn't just Jimmy Clausen that lost us 14 games last year.

I never said you said that, but you did suggest it. Do you think the coaches are going to fall over themselves to get Cam Newton #2 by making it an open competition? Come on.

A rookie, no matter how hyped, deserves far less than a guy who has played through a tough year. If they work out an agreement so be it, but it should be both players that agree and it shouldn't be some kind of competition.

They have more important things to compete for than a jersey.

No. It would be a massive mistake to force a competition for a jersey number because Cam wants the jersey. If it's Clausens idea, fine, but there is NO REASON that Cam can't just pick a different number.

He can pick a different number and I don't see anything wrong with that but I don't see Clausen with number two next year. Just my opinion though.

Yeah, I'm the fool.

Shut you mouth and learn you place dumbass.

He responded with "it's mine."

Secondly, I didn't say that he should give it to Cam, I said they should have a competition for it.

Third, I don't hate Clausen, but he is entitled to nothing more than Cam after that season last year, and if it's just a jersey, then why not have a competition for it?

I didn't realized you stood behind Clausen and held his balls.

Frankly your attitude and what you write is pretty offensive and pointless. You made a comment earlier in the thread about people being internet tough guys, when it is in fact YOU who is try to force feed your opinion down peoples throats.

What would you expect him to say? Genuinely answer that. Anything other than what he said would have made him look like he was giving up to Cam without even fighting for it.

Have you ever heard of people competing for a jersey number? They might do this in kindergarten, but for professionals? Frankly Clausen was given it and unless he wants to give it up it's his. What difference would it make to Cam...? The reason some fringe players give up numbers to high priced vets and draftees is because it can often give them a little bit of cash in case they get cut.

Believe it or not, there isn't 'sides' like you claim, some people actually just want whats best for the team. Both these guys competing is what is.

Grow up

I only respond, when people attack me but nice try. I don't taking cursing at me to easily. As far as his jersey question, I would have expected him to just say, "we'll see". Anyway just chill.

All veterans have more respect from there teammates than a rookie, even if they aren't any good. Jimmy will have earned a fair bit of respect for the way he handled himself last year. At no point did he give up or kick up a fuss. He kept his head down and kept working.

Cam is going back to get his belongings as in his entire life and move it Charlotte, but nice try .

Secondly, Clausen is also entitled nothing and needs to stop acting like it and that starts with the competiton for the starting job at quarterback and the priveledge to where the number two on the back of their jersey.

Wait--you know all of this? You have first hand information? Maybe he is. I qualified that possibility in my post. You just want everyone to agree with your way of looking at things.

However, if you think #2 will be Cam's if he becomes the starter, you are very lost. Numbers do not work that way.

Yes, because he said he is.
