Only two OLBs in the entire league had better numbers, and neither of them had a John Beason in the middle racing them to make the play. Five 4-3 scheme OLBs had more sacks, and the most any of them had was 5 (Davis had 3.5). OLBs get big sack numbers in the 3-4, but we don't run that.

Davis had an outstanding year. If he repeats his performance he could be joining Beason in the Pro Bowl. He was a real bright spot, and wasn't misused at all.

Wow, I did not realize his production was that much in 08. I guess that goes back to my point that even with him having that great of a season he just didn't stand out to me like he did in 07. Maybe that has a lot to do with Beason in the middle than anything else. Or maybe it was that he moved to the weak side which does call for more consistant play than big play opportunities. I'm really not sure but those stats really do opens your eyes.

Davis had a great year. I still think he was not used as well as he should have been. I just hope Meeks and Fox can sit down and figure out how to zone blitz without our CBs playing a mile off and letting us get killed by slant routes. If so Davis will be a monster to deal with in coverage as well as blitzing.

I think you also have to give Manning some credit as well seeing how most of time the defense was playing agaisnt an offense trying to come from behind. I just hope Manning isn't also the main reason that Meeks looked good as a DC.

When the Colts lost Mike Doss and other stars on D they were not the same and Payton had to work alot harder. Take from that what you will.

They were definitely built to play paired with a high powered O. I don't think that was the case that much this past season, they were helping the offense which was lagging for awhile. From the bits and pieces I have seen from Colts fans though, most are happy to see the guy gone.

You know that the Colt's boards were probably full of "Fire Meeks" threads and if they had hired Trgovac away from us all of them would be stoked. It's just the way message boards are. :)

Considering that Meeks is from that Dungy coaching tree I wonder if we could see Davis being used similar to how Derrik Brooks was used down in Tampa, especially early in his career. IMO their style of playing OLB is very similar and their physical attributes are much alike as well.

As for how he is used i.e. blitzing, I'm not sure if that is a good idea. After reading those stats that Cyberjag brought up, I don't think you try to fix something that isn't broke. Hopefully, the team will be able to bring in the right guys and some of our draft picks like Charles Johnson will be developed to where bringing pressure from the OLB position in a 4-3 defense is only an occasitional occurance as it has been in the past.

T Davis is a freak. I think Meeks will utilize him even more. We might see him at DE some to bring more pressure if we get weak at DE. I'd like to see Meeks use Andersons speed on passing situations. I think he could be a role player.

Shhh dont say those two words that make 3-4.

I think Davis will be used in more blitzing situations, he proved himself to be quite capable when the occasion called for it. However he's also very good in coverage (why he was put on Lucas' side as well), so I just hope they don't try to make him one-dimensional.

I don't think he'll get any more sacks than 4-5, thats what we've always gotten with our players

I think in 02 fields had alot, he was our SLB

I honestly think we need one more elite LB to be back to our previous years capability

One player we have never even been close to replacing was will witherspoon

when he left he was the best coverage LB in the leauge IMO, he really made us special

if he stayed at OLB and went to a good team he would have been to a few probowls by now

Actually if Peppers is not back next year, the 3-4 makes the most sense with the personnel we have. You have Brayton, Johnson and Kemo on the line with Davis coming off the edge. Then you work Connor in at LB with Beason and Diggs.

    • So let me ask you this, and this is assuming you watched the first 2 games of the season. The falcons game was a back and forth between to 2 bad teams until bryce throws 2 crucial picks to help atlanta pull away. The second game was a sloppy game where the defense scored and our offense did absolutely nothing till the 4th quarter, bryce even fumbles and saints return for a TD. If Dalton starts both of those games is the outcome and playout still the same for both games?
    • sure.  I acknowledge we had a rookie making rookie mistakes.  You fail to acknowledge a pushing 40 Dalton however paired up in this trainwreck wasn't going to yield significantly better results. good results.   And Dalton didn't even win his game vs a wrecked Seattle D.  Andy Dalton couldn't even find a way for his team to beat the Carolina freaking Panthers in 2022.  A team with an interim HC, that couldn't score, playing like it was 1970.   And Andy Dalton had REAL weapons on the field at his disposal.   All Dalton had to do was score more than 10 points.  He couldn't pull that off.    I probably got as little faith in Bryce as anyone here.   But I'm not willing to go this Andy Dalton route.  Maybe he wins 4ish here.  But he wasn't doing much here.  Dalton isn't Cincy Dalton.
    • What do you think really happens here?  Do you think that Seattle loss with half a secondary is a realistic game for Dalton to consistently have?  Do you expect 40 year old Dalton to throw it 60 times and rack up 361 yards while constantly getting hit to work against other teams?  If we played him all year do you think he would rack up 6,137 yards 34 TDs and 0 INTs on over a thousand attempts?  That games wasn't a great game.  We were trailing all game and he threw it against a terrible secondary 60 times averaging 6.6 yards an attempt.  He had one "deep" pass to Chark (wide ass open) for 27 yards who ran another 20 for a TD.  That's not happening against other teams.  I would be surprised if Dalton made it two more games taking those kinds of hits and probably losing both of those games.  Our OL sucked, Our coaches sucked, and our weapons sucked.  Remember Rhule beat Andy Dalton and his Saints offense (which has a better OL and better weapons) just the prior year.  Yeah Matt Rhule...  Darnold put up 43 yards and 2 INTs and Dalton STILL couldn't beat him.  That's embarrassing.
