Conspiracy Theory: We knew Rivera to be coach in 2009-10.

Hurney's draft selections seem to suggest that was the case. Sticking my neck out with unfounded speculation, so please understand that there is nothing but a pattern of behavior that is a bit curious.

First, we know he was not drafting for Fox in 2010. Rookies take time to develop at QB and WR. Our first three picks? QB and WRs. Secondly, our next pick was Eric Norwood, a 3-4 OLB on most boards. No fifth rounder, but in the sixth we get Gettis--a big WR, Pike, a tall, pocket passer, and Hardy, a pass rushing DE.

We ignored DT because, perhaps, we had not had the 4-3 or 3-4 discussion.

Later we discover that Rivera will run the 4-3, but show some 3-4 looks. That explains Norwood and picking up Jason Williams after Dallas cut him last year. These decisions were made when Fox was the coach.

Connor will stay on as the second ILB when we play in a 3-4, instead of pushing him to SLB. If we re-sing Anderson, that makes sense. Finally, we address the DT position with 2 second-day picks, one of whom was a NT in a 3-4.

Was this the reason we purged veterans in 2009? We already had the design?

It's a conspiracy man. (Just having some fun during the slow time)

Conspiracy theories are fun, but this one doesn't hold any water really. The whole thing would basically boil down to "JR didn't want to pay 3-4 million extra in coaching salaries last season." If we knew that Rivera was our guy, we could have just hired him and gotten the system in place pre-lockout which would have made JR's ability to withstand a lockout even stronger. I think the draft picks were made because of value and with little concern over whether they benefited Fox or not. The veterans were cut to help JR's stance on the looming lockout and long term benefit to the franchise.

Again, fun to ponder for a minute, no legs.

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
