Mac vs. Windows

I like Windows 7.

I've had limited experience with Ubuntu and thought it was pretty cool and easy to use, but I don't know a lot about it.

Man, I don't have a lot of experience with Mac... I grew up on PC and had some brief experience with Mac when I was in like 4th grade, but it was too short lived to notice any difference.

Now, in my program (film and media) I'm in at school, we use Mac exclusively, and apparently it's the cream of the crop in digital media. Everyone uses it because so much of its software is geared towards new/digital media. Yes, it is awesome and I plan on buying one myself.

Problems? I found that they are VERY expensive compared to their PC counterparts, the interface takes a WHOLE lot of getting used to and is very frustrating at first, and despite what some have said, I've had to repeatedly restart them because they flake out every once in awhile.

But, overall, I think the amount of options you have with them is worth it.

It really depends on a number of things. My basic breakdown would be,

1. If you are only going to use it for internet/word processing/e-mail get a pc and run linux

2. If you are going to do certain specialized video editing/production get a mac

3. If you are using accounting software or gaming get a pc with windows

for the majority of computer users the first covers what they do. Linux is very stable, and has very few malware issues. It is also free which is always good. I run a dual boot with windows xp and ubuntu on my desktop and a triple boot of ubuntu, xp and vista on my laptop.

ps in response to the lifespan claim I call bs. I have several pcs around my house over 3 years old that still work fine including a ~6 year old dell laptop.

I know Windows backward and forward. I have Windows 7 and I love it. I just don't feel like learning a new OS. Especially an OS that isn't really used in the business world. (At least MY business world).

Depends on what you want to do with it.

IMO, while Mac's are generally better, they are also more expensive. They aren't so much better that they are worth the extra cost.

The Mac is a better quality product, my macbook is still running just as strong as it did when I got it 3 year ago. While PCs tend to deteriorate faster (malware), unless you really know how to take care of it. I have a PC as well, but don't hardly use it, because its old/slow.

Macs are much more expensive, so if money isn't an issue then go with a Mac. But if your looking for value then go with a PC.

If you like to customize your computer or play video games, go with a PC. You'll have more options there.

If your looking for a good quality product thats reliable and runs smooth, go with Mac.

What you speak of is the vulnerablities of windows. This has nothing to do with the quality of a pc, as already stated in the thread pcs are perfectly capable of runing other operating systems besides windows, such as one of hundreds of distributions of linux, and even OSX (but that is a discussion for another thread)

If you just use said pc for browsing the internet/ and word processing you should go here and download ubuntu Its quite easy to install, and free as well as very user friendly, very stable, and every bit free of malware as osx (osx and linux are both based from the unix os and even share a very large number of applications)

Wait, so when this comes out you can replace your OS on your PC with Google's Chrome? Or is it just on the Interweb?

Anyway...I've always had a PC because of AutoCAD & Rhino, but they are now being made for Mac thus removing the need for bootcamp or any of that jazz. I just have never been able to move around well with the Mac mouse and all so I stick with HPs w/ Windows
